Title: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"
Post by: justfreaky on July 29, 2007, 02:16:21 pm
Hey Tom,
I know it's a lot of work , but how about an introduction section? Members (new & old) can introduce themselves. Let everyone know who they are, where there from, where they race, etc... I'm thinking people can get to know eachother a little better.

 Just a thought

 Steve

Hello from Great Falls, Montana.

My name is Steve. I am building a Dwarf Car, using  the Legends Cars as a guide of sorts. My car is a '40 Ford coupe. I have been building it from the frame up. I've always wanted to build my own car.  Closest Legends racing seems to be Kalispell, MT or Stateline, ID. At this point my plan is to run SCCA Auto Cross. Use to race street stocks and pavement modifieds over in Washington state. Got out due to high cost of racing; But can't seem to give it up. 8)
Welcome to the forum eveyone! I'm sure you'll meet some nice folks on here, and get the info you need to have a GREAT season.

 Good Luck To All!

Three posts out of 114 members??? :-[   (shakes head)

The only way to have a forum is if ALL the members talk to eachother. There are a lot of really good people here! Tom has put a lot of time and effort into creating a forum so that we can ALL Learn from eachother - newbies or old timers. Al is one of the nicest, and most helpful, people I have ever had the pleasure to chat with and exchange emails.
Yes! I am blowing off a little steam here. I work 12 hour days, and sometimes don't get to check the forum until 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. I check it EVERY DAY. I APPRECIATE ALL  WHO CONTRIBUTE TO THE FORUM!!! . And YES; I am a newbie! Don't be afraid to contribute. The only "stupid question" is the one that goes un-asked.
When you stop in - Say Hello; ask about what you are having trouble with; post a picture (Everybody likes pictures  ;D); talk to another member. It's amazing the people you meet; and the things one can learn.
I appologize if I offended anyone. It's my 2 cents; for what it's worth. I just think this can be a Great Forum.
I Thank Tom, Al, and the site sponsors for giving me a place to learn.

 Steve

 P.S.
See - You've all just learned that sometimes I get angry.  :o   So. I guess that's a little bit more everyone knows about me.

My name is John and at the moment I am running the occasional dirt modified race near St. Louis, MO.  At the end of the season, I am looking to sell my car and try to find a used Legends car (if anyone is interested in a trade, let me know).  The modified is fun, but I just do not have the funding or time to be as competitive as I want to be with it.   Before that I ran a couple years in a dirt street stock and some autocrosses.   The Legends have always looked like fun and I love the idea of using the same car on dirt and paved ovals, along with road courses.  I just want to enjoy racing again and stop worrying about constant rules changes and new go fast parts that always increase the cost to compete.   The Legends group in Southwest Missouri is really taking off, so it seems like a good time to make the change.

Hi, my name is Kim Kelley and I live in Rochelle GA.  I have a red and white 37' Ford sedan Legends car.  I have had my car for about two years but haven't been able to race as much as I would like to.  I changed jobs and built a house right after I bought the car so racing fell down the list of my priorities.  I am trying to start getting back into it slowly.  I enjoy racing in Cordele but I seem to do better and tear up less in Albany.  Hope to see you at the Circle again soon.

Hi, my name is Geoff Bevan, I am located in Nova Scotia, Canada. I am in my second year of legends racing. I was able to be the 2006 Rookie of the year at my local track (Scotia Speedworld). This season so far I have been able to pick up 2 feature wins. I have been helping a couple of local driver's with setups and repairs. I hope to someday be able to race with some of you.

Hey Guys,

My name  is Mike, I have been racing Legends since 2001 where I finished  second in the Semi Pro division in Northern California, I had a full ride at that time but found out it was hard driving and not owning the car, in 2004 my wife bought me a 37 Chevy Sedan and have been in Texas as of 2005, there are some really fast guys here and our tracks suck so , I am being challenged by my own driving. I hope to move on to Dwarf cars next year as dirt tracks are plentiful in Texas.

Later,

Mike.

Hi guys!  T48 is the number of our "37 Ford Sedan Legends, AKA Tweety.   I haven't posted much lately (Al, thanks for asking) because we haven't had the best of luck with Tweety. *L*  With any luck, though, our engine will be rebuilt for the second time real soon and we just MIGHT be able to race for the first time!

We're Clarence and Barbara Thomason, we're from Leary, Georgia (about 25 miles from Albany) and we support the same track that Tom does - Suicide Circle Speedway in Albany.  It's a great track for Legends, and with the big $1000 to win purse coming up Labor Day Weekend we'd love to see a BUNCH of you there!

Also, we're Trey "The Cole Train" Cole's biggest fans!!  ;D

Where do I start....Well my son has been racing flattrack motorcycles since he was around 5. He is now 16. He was very competitive at our local tracks, and won several class championships. I decided that it was getting a little too scary, regarding the injury rate. My uncle has been involved with the Legends series for quite some time, and has wanted us too buy a legends car for quite a while. So here we are!! We are really enjoying the racing and learning curve. We only have two races under our belts, in Holland, New York. He did race 3 times, in North Carolina, after the first race wreck at Holland Speedway!! We are getting as much seat time this year as possible. We are looking forward to a full race season next year, where we will have an entire year to set goals and work towards those goals.

Might as well be polite and finally give an intro, huh?
I'm Jon Bell.  Raced at our local track in Senoia, GA off and on for 15 years - 'til my son Phillip started running Bandos.  Couldn't afford two cars - so guess who got to keep his!!!  We've run a lot of different tracks always preferring to add to our collection of tracks rather than points.  Had a lot of fun and a lot of heartbreaks in 9 years.  Phillip is a very gifted wrench ('course I wouldn't be biased now would I?).  He has stuck to a goal since he was 9: "One of these days I'm gonna sit on top of one of those pit boxes, making the calls."  He has crewed on a variety of stockcars from my old Pintos to traveling Late Models and now ARCA.  We race his Legend on off weeks.  And I have a blast watching it all!  Seeing him go "over the wall" at Springfield where they won was as big a thrill to dad as the win at SCS the week before.

Hi Jon,
Sounds like Phillip has a plan. Not often do most of us have a plan at such a young age. My wife says I'm still clueless! :o Wonder what she means by that? ???
Anyway, It is fun to watch them grow up and be a part of their lives.
 Congrats!!!
 Best Wishes to you both!

My name is Jeremy Coulter and I am from Ottawa, ON, Canada.  I just purchased the number 28 1934 Ford Sedan from Frank Johnston and Brassil Creek Racing.  My Fiance and I took the racing school and when we were done Frank said "you are fast. When are you buying a car". lol.  So I bought one of his school cars.  I am sure some of you on here know Dwight Pilgram and it was an honour to watch him race my car the week before I bought it.  he really knows his stuff.
As far as racing goes I have run 4 times at my local track and travelled twice to an out of town track.  We had our first wreck on the weekend.  it was very exciting  ;D.  I was actully running in second place with some very seasoned veterans when 3 of us got into a spin in between turn 1 and 2.  I am having so much fun racing Legneds and I am looking forward to tearing my car apart this winter and putting it back together.

well it was a gentle wreck.  Just  a front right spindle and a shock mount in the rear housing.  I could not believe how well I was doing either.  The car was hooked up and I was quick and smooth.  The guy who took me out is going for track champion too.  I figured that was good for a rookie.  But it is so much fun seeing how much better you get each week as a driver once you start to get used to the car.  When I took the school Frank Johnston said to get at least 50 racing laps in before you start changing anything on the car.  he was right.  The car felt really loose for the first 2 races, and then i discovered a faster line on the track and the car is not as loose anymore.  I guess it all comes with experience but i am having a blast doing it.

Here goes:

CC57: Cowboy Carson  and most of my cars have been number #57. Except the Thunder Roadster I drive now.

A TR? What's he doing on this site? Learnng from y'all about these 4-cylinder motors we run.   And I figure the TR is just a cousin of the Legends, right?

Anyway, I'm down here in Texas. Used to race dirt (Street Stock, Limted Modified, Late Model Stock Car) before going to the "dark side"- asphalt. And I love it! Racing on asphalt seems to be much cleaner (no pun intended) as they're certainly does't seem to be as much beating and banging going on.

Additionally, I like driving these cars. I refer to them as short track/Saturday night IROC racing: same engines, same shocks, same wheel offsets, etc. It's driver setup and driver versus driver setup and driver. And I don't run as m,uch a rsik of being out walleted to the finish line. Now if I can just get her set up (and learn how to drive her) it would be that much better. But I'm getting there.

Thanks and talk to y'all soon.

Hey all,
My name is Louie Robinett and I am an INEX certified Tech man at Huntsville Speedway. I have never raced a Legends or Bandolero car, but I have been in racing since 1965 in one form or another, drove everything from Quarter Midgets to Late Models, and retired as a driver in 1996. I really enjoy working with the Legends and Bando programs and have made a lot of new friends.
Everyone is invited to run at Huntsville, it is a really great track for the Legends and Bandos. For more info visit www.huntsvillespeedway.com. Also check out our current Winter series, next race is this Saturday Oct.13th, 2007.

My dad and uncle also started in karting and once raced a legend at the Speedrome on the east side of Indianapolis. Hi!
I'm  G. Brian Metcalf

I just finished what you might call my first season with my legends car. I only really raced it once, but that once was an awsome race....I qualified for the nationals. I'd like to tell you it was because I was in the thick of battle with a bunch of cars,  but truth is I only had to beat one other racer in the "masters" divison and he dropped out with brake trouble. I took 2 more laps and pulled in the pits because I thought my engine temp was high.

I'm from the north east, Corning, NY and I will be racing at Chemung speedrome (asphalt) and maybe five mile point (dirt) in 2008.

I have one sponser......Me............I own a hot dog cart that I sell dogs and chili from.  I call it... IT'S CHILI OUT.

A few hours on a street corner selling chili and dogs can help me race I'm all for it!
Soo if you are out in the Corning area and you see a old guy selling chili on the street corner stop and say "HI" I'll sell you some of the best chili you've ever had, and you will be supporting local Legends racing.

Brian

Steve;
I didn't make it to the Nationals, I didn't sell enough chili.......
Really my dad became ill and didn't want to be away.
There will be another time when I'll go.

Brian

Shameless plugs is how I can sell chili....
That reminds me! I have to work on the web page....

Hi!  My name is Mike Madore #57.  I'm 48, and just started racing this summer.  Next season will be my first in a Legend.

I bought a 34 Ford sedan from Paul DeJong at the end of the season.  She is a fast car with a good setup.

Jeremy Coulter introduced me to this sites.  Thanks Jeremy!

I'd been running a little old Hyundai Accent at Capital City Speedway in Stittsville, Ontario for the last 5 races of the season.  We called it "The Little White Wonder"  It should never have lasted beyond one race.  It has 358,000 original Kilometers on it, and I've done nothing to the engine other than change timing belts every 120,00 Kilometers.

My wife, brother and I all took a driving course from Frank Johnston's Brassil Creek Racing school.  Frank is a great instructor, and we had a great day at his school.  One day in the seat of a legends car was enough to hook me for life.javascript:void(0);  These cars are an absolute dream to race.  Of course, I was sold on them as soon as I saw them.  They are like a blast from the past for me.  I had cousins racing full size cars that looked just like these back in the late sixties.

Buying a race car after the season is over is like enrolling in a long term torture program.  Do you have any idea how many days until racing season starts up again here? ...  152 until our test and tune day!...   The waiting is so painful.  I'll have to live on this site and others while I wait.javascript:void(0);

Mike

My name is Brian Backes and I am from Bismarck, North Dakota.  I am 49 years old and just finished up my 2nd season of  Legends racing.  I have wanted to race for as long as I can remember but never had the opportunity, or cash to give it a try.  2 years ago I purchased a new Legends car and became a participant instead of a fan sitting in the stands.  What a blast!   We have 5 dirt tracks in a 125 mile radius where we get to race somewhere around 40 nights a year so I can pretty much get my fill of racing.  I just wish we could get in 40 or so nights during the whole year instead of just the summer months.   We get almost too much racing and then a long spell of "wishing I was racing".  Check out my web site at www.backesracing.com.

I'm John and I race both asphalt and dirt throughtout Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and from time to time Missouri.

I have two cars, one set up for asphalt and the other for dirt. I've been racing Legends for over five years and have enjoyed every minute of it. One thing for certain with the legends is that no matter where you go and race you're always treated like out of town family! There isn't anywhere that I've raced that I haven't been made to feel welcome and that the local racers weren't willing to help with set up info.

Currently I'm changing the asphalt car to a road race set up so I can do a bit of road course in Albuquerque. I've haven't done any road courses n a Legend but I'm looking forward to it.

Hey there, fellow racers.  I just received delivery of my first race car(used of course). I fell like a little kid again.
Spent all last season as a spectator. I actually made it to Vegas to see the Nationals. It looks like I'm hooked now.
Those darned racing schools, they get you every time.
Cheers from Canada

My name is Scott Wilkerson. I live on the Easter Shore of Maryland and race in PA with the Central PA Legends (dirt). This is my 5 year of legends racing and went to the dirt Nats. in Missouri this year where I finished 6th. I know one place out of a big nice piece of metal. Oh well, I will try again next  year. I'm in the Army so don't get to race that often. Maybe 5 times a year. Hope everyone has a great 08 and great off season. If you see the Ol' # 77 stop by and say hi.

I am John I live in Gastonia, NC. I grew up in Long Island New York. I come from a racing family, dad raced Figure 8 cars for 30 years. I raced karts as a kid and Fig 8 cars as a teen. My little Brother Races Mini Stocks at New Smyrna beach in FL. I spent 8 years in the Army finishing my time with the 101st Airborne out of Ft Campbell, KY.  I was a cop for a little over two years and now I work Nuclear Security in the Carolinas. (lol, the pay is whole lot better)

Looking to get back into racing and Legends Cars seem to be the best fit for me. I enjoy the fact they race every where (to include road courses and dirt) under the same rules. I am an oval guy, but raced road courses in karts and they are a lot of fun.

I currently have my Harley up for sale so I can purchase a Legends Car. When I start racing will all depend on when the bike is sold and when the right deal comes along.  I will be asking a lot of questions, so thanks in advance.

John, welcome to the forum.  Hope you manage to find a buyer for your bike before the beginning of the season.  Good luck on finding a car.  Hope my response about legends helped a little.  Hope some of the more experienced drivers on this forum step up and fill in any of the blanks that my response was missing.

Good luck,

I like pavement you don't have to wash your car so much and it's alot easier on your equipment but dirt is alot more fun.

I hear you.

The guy that owned my car before me let his son race the car for 2007.  He was saying that dirt racing was a lot of fun when he tried it, but there was a lot of vibration.  Not sure if I'll try dirt this year.  Who knows about next year. ;)

Howdy!  My name is Shaun Cheatum. Back when I was writing books and drawing comics and such, my pen name was Pegalis.   Most who know me in person simply call me D'cheat *The Cheat*   No relation to the home star runner web site :)

I have been in quite a few forms of motor sports over the years.  My favorite to this day is Rock Crawling.  From autocross to drag, I dabble in it all.
Then I got some seat time in a friends Legends car and was hooked from the get-go.   But turning left all the time is not my thing.  So, Im currently building a sedan into a road race car.  Im re-working the frame, suspension, brakes and tossing in a turbo charged hayabusa engine. Depending on the boost settings, from 200 hp to 500 hp.  It will be one hell'of a ride when Im done.   It seems that I have enough spare parts laying around to even attempt a road legal status for this car too. Time will tell. :)

I live in Reno, Nevada way out past spanish springs.

Hello Everybody, My name is Tom Quattlebaum (kwa tul bawm) and I'm currently living with my dad in Newnan, Georgia.  My background in racing started in 2001 about a week after I graduated high school.  I ran yard karts at a local dirt track for a couple of years.  Somehow (through some very good people at 4cycle.com) I picked up a ride in Champ Karts running the Georgia State Series for 2003 and 2004.  In 2005, I was offered a full time ride with Ron's Kart Shop in north Georgia, where I ran Limited Mod and Stock class karts at Blue Ridge, Jasper, and Chatsworth, Georgia.   Ended that season with 13 wins, and around 65 top 3 finishes out of about 100 races run.  Towards the end of 2005 I started helping Ronnie Sanders, because I wanted to learn racecars.  I ended up quitting karts at the end of that year and got to where all I did racing wise was volunteer and intern under Ronnie.  Under Ronnie I've worked on his Pro and Super late models, Billy Fulson's legends cars, and a few bando's here and there.  I work for Ronnie's son, Ricky, every now and again, and I crew chiefed a little on his Pro Late last year.   I've also gained some experience working on Pro Challenge cars the past couple of years helping Kyle Mitchell.  Kyle sold his pro challenge car this past year and is now moving to a Pro Late.  He and his dad have asked me to be their crew chief on that car.   I now currently split my time between Kyle's car, Ronnie's Shop, Ricky's Shop, and school (I've finally made it to my last semester).

I guess that's about it for now, I'm sure yall will learn more about me over time :).

Congratulations on getting to your last semester at school!
It's always a tough row to hoe; But well worth the experience!
What is your major?
Mine was Business Management. Did that for 30 years. Now work in Health Care (yes, went back to school).
I've seen your posts on Bob's, and your posts here. I appreciate your help (through posts on 4cycle) for helping me get my Grandson's go kart finished. You have a lot of good insite! It's Great To See You Here On Ledgendsracer.
Congrats also for becoming a moderator on the site! I'm sure All will benefit from your knowledge.

Steve,

I'm a Physics Major with a Business Concentration.  Basically I've taken a lot of the practical/hard Physics Courses, and instead of taking classes like Nuclear Physics I spent my last two semesters taking Business Courses.  Have to admit I think a lot more of Business Majors after taking some Business Courses, as they (and the theory behind them) are actually pretty interesting.  I'll be glad when I'm finally finished.  Maybe then I can get a real job and become a real boy!  That is of course I can't make a living somehow in the racing world :).

Hi,

Name is Frank and have just bought a Legend in San Diego - simply a bit of fun.  Plan is to use it at the local autocross and also do a few track days - never worked or set up a bike engined car before, so will definitely be using this forum regularly.

If there is anyone else down in SoCal with a Legend, let me know - I literally have hundreds of questions, and I haven't even started stripping the car down yet!

Looking forward to mining all of you for info.

Hello.   My Name is Joe.  I'm from Menoken ND.  I just ordered a brand new '37 Chevy Legend car to race up here on the local dirt tracks.  Looking forward to chatting with everyone.  Little bit about my back round.  I'm a firefighter in Bismarck ND, married for 2 yrs, no kids, and I love racing.   I started out in the "road hogs" class (2 people driving the car, one has the gas and the other has the steering and the brake) which was fun but got to be a demolition derby at 50mph.  I then moved to lawnmoer racing and have been doing so for the past 7 yrs.  I love racing mowers but I was approched by my wifes godmother about racing a legend.  So long story short, my car is on the way and thats why I'm here. ;)

Hello ! My name is Van Sykes and I live in Stevensville Maryland. I have been in racing for most of my life! Got the fever at around 13, at local dirt track in North Carolina back in 1968 (thats were I am from). I have been in legends since 1999, with one small hang up. My kidneys failed in the fall of 1999 only two races after buying my frst legends car. On January 7th 2000 I had a transplant with a LARGE thanks to my Dad. He is now 72 and I am 52 and a Golden Master thanks to him. So I am into my third full season going into 2008! It took awhile in order to get back on my feet. I run at Shenandoah Speedway in LarayVa. and at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas Va. I am looking forward to 2008 and hope that everyone is, So good luck to everybody and one good note the season is just around the corner. Last note I look forward to chating with this group! Thanks Van #82[/quote]

Brad, Congrats on the win you guys got at Cordele a couple of weeks ago.  I was there helping out Billy Fulson and Luke Behnke.  I don't quite know what to make of that last restart, seems only the flag man knew the green was going to be thrown, haha!

It was kinda strange. Andrew said he was in turn 4 scrubbing his tires when he saw the green flag fly. Of course, he fired and ran.  Will be fun to get back there with a (hopefully) dry track. We have fun at WCS.

Y'all have been killing them so far in the Ga Winter Series and in the Flurry. Looks like a couple of championships may be heading Billy's way if he can continue being consistent these last couple of races. He and Trey have been having a good battle this year - although I hope we have y'all battling for second at WCS!

Good job. See ya March 1 at WCS.

Well, Billah won't be there, he'll be running the Pro Rattler at South Alabama Speedway in Ronnie's car.  I'll be taking his car down to WCS though, probably for Casey or Beau to run.  Our bando guy will be there too :).  I'll come hunt you down next time and introduce myself.....as.....myself!
Title: Re: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"
Post by: ASR on February 15, 2008, 07:38:16 am
Sounds like a plan. Good luck to Billy at the Rattler.  Will he still get Legends points with someone else driving the car?

Look to  forward meeting you. It's always fun to run against Casey (Roderick, I assume) and Beau (Slocumb, I assume). They make you earn what you get. Think we'll have a good race!

Title: Re: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"
Post by: fastmantom on February 15, 2008, 09:09:33 am
Yes, If I remember right, INEX allows one substitute race per championship.  It will be either Casey Roderick or Beau Slocumb driving his car.  Billy will probably do pretty well at the Rattler.  Ronnie won it last year in this same car, and Billy has run pretty well there in late models.  It will be interesting for sure.
Title: Re: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"
Post by: ASR on February 15, 2008, 10:04:47 am
That should make the championship a little more interesting!

We reskinned a Childress chassis and built a road course LM last year. Andrew raced it one weekend at Roebling Road Raceway and won both of his races in the Super Unlimited class. That course has a one-mile front stretch, and it's fun to watch that late model come through there at 150+ - Andrew said it was fun driving it that fast, too! Planning on going to Rockingham and Daytona later in the year with it.

We would like to get Andrew some LM oval experience, but with no tracks close around here, don't know that it would be worth it to convert the car to an oval racer. We are thinking seriously about it, though. The car's  a little dated, but it would be some good experience. Anytime y'all need a fill-in driver, I know one!

Hello,

My name is Randy Raduechel and I have a Legends Car business; RPM/Raduechel Performance Motorsports.

I have been involved with the Legends since they came to Northern California in 1994. I drove the dealers car as a pace car in 1994 to help promote the series. I have been active with both the Legends and Roadsters since that time.  Both of my sons also race and have earned national INEX roadracing titles in 2006.

I am the Nor-Cal NASA road racing coordinator.  Please contact me if you have question regarding road course racing or oval track racing.

I have earned several championships in both oval and road course series. I won the world finals in a roadster in 2005, and have had many customers earn championships also in both oval and road racing.

I rebuild FJ/XJ1200 engines for many of our local racers,  along with chassis work, set-up, etc. I do alot of carb work. I pride myself in the fact that I use ultrasonic cleaning systems to make sure your carbs perform to their maximum performance level.

One of my customers took his car and ran it on a dyno last season and after 2 hours of dyno time, the carb set up I provided offer the best H/P and powerband package.

Please feel free to contact me for information to help you with your car.  I won't sell you something that won't make your car run better, and I won't point you in the wrong direction.

Thank you,

Hey Gimpster,

Good to have one more brain out there to drain.  I need knowledge and experience to go with the car I bought.  I'm hoping to siphon off of all the other racers so I can be lazy and learn the cheap way!

Hi all, I am Jeff Steenbergen and I just purchased a Legends car to race in the Wisconsin Dirt Legends Series.  I have been racing asphalt late models for the last 7 years and have finally been out priced.  I just got sick of spending so much to race and started looking at the Legends because of their limited costs.  I look forward to getting to know you guys here and racing Legends cars.  I will be putting up some picture once I letter the car.   You can visit my website : www.jeffsteenbergen.com

I was asked to introduce myself, so  I will. Basically I am DJ Ross's (djracing) brother and he races in the Wisconsin Legends Racing dirt series. I'm 16 years old (17 on Oct. 7) and plan on racing in the same series in 2009. I'm planning on getting my legend at the end of the 2008 season(hopefully i can find one!) The one I've been looking at is this one http://www.legendsracing.com/For_Sale/for_sale.htm . If it's still for sale past September I'll see what I can do. See you at the track dirt racers in Wisconsin. I'll be in the pits with my brother #87. Otherwise I like to sim race when I can in iRacing, ARCA sim, and nr2k3. I also like to get out to Slinger Speedway when I can, and going to mid-american races.

My name in Kevin and I just started racing Legends this year at Monroe Motor Speedway.  I have only made 2 races in the Legends but I have been racing dirt for 11 years.  I have raced street stocks, open wheel modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Southern Sportmods/Limited Modifieds.  I also have a son,Jacob,  that is 11 and just started racing Bandolero's this year.  He has raced karts for a couple years on asphalt.  We have both done very well in the past and hopefully we can continue doing good in this new type of car.  I purchased 2 used Legends cars, one with an open motor and the other a sealed with the idea of keeping the one I liked the best and selling the other but I hit the wall extremely hard this weekend in the open motor car so it looks like I might not be selling one after all!!  I bought my son a used Bando(ten years old) and we took it apart and completely rebuilt it.

This is a great site and I will be asking ALOT of questions.

Hello from the UK

Im Dan and i mechanic for my Dad in the UK oval series.

We run a 37 ford coupe (pic below courtesy of Stu from 6th sense media)

Just learning lots at the moment so a 3rd and a 5th so far this year have been the top finishes. Still building the kit we need to get the car to where it needs to be.

This is taken as a learning year and next year i will have a car too which will be good.

Just looking around this forum has helped greatly thanks.

Hi everybody

I'm Chris and I am an old drag racer ,who did the Richard Petty Driving Experiance last year at the 7/8 tri oval at  Disney. I must say its by far the best ride in FLA   , It also made me think more and more about this turning left thing . After almost a year of research I have come to the point where I think Legends Cars are the way for me to go . I am going to do the BCR school at Capital City on the 16th.
Way back in the 80s I did race one enduro at Flamborough as well as running a class called Junk Yard Dawg at Varney I was 18 - 19 at the time and when my car broke I was to broke to fix it . I love everything about racing but do not want to keep pouring time and money into drag cars. Is it true, can you really run one of these cars for as little money as 600 racing claims. I like the fact that you do not have to work 50 hours a week to do basic maintanance as well . Everyone  involved with legends that Ive met so far are real nice folk the kind I want to be around . competitive but not the win even if it kills us all types  . I hope to use this forum to find a good car, or at least some good advice about new cars vs used cars sealed motors vs open that kind of thing.

Enough for now ,I truely hope to meet and race all of you.

Chris

Hi Chris,

 Welcome to the site!

While I can't tell you that anything about ANY form of racing is cheap; I can tell you that it's cheaper than running pavement modifieds. Once you get your car and some spares, I think that you will find it will cost you a bit less than drag racing. (Barring wrecks or engine failures.) The people that I have met on this site are the BEST!!!  A very friendly bunch! Check out the old threads. There is some info on buying new vs used, and buying a used car. If you need help finding an old thread or questions, Please don't hesitate to ask.  Cars should be coming more plentiful as the season winds down. I'm sure you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a good car.

 Best of Luck,

Steve

Chris,
Welcome, yes what you have heard about the cost to run a Legend is correct.  I made the switch from asphalt late models to Legends this year because of time and cost.  I spend about 4 hours during the week on maintanance and average about $75 per race for pit pass, race gas, and 1/3 of an oil change.  You cant beat that especially when we race for $300 to win and $35 to start.
Title: Re: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"

Chris - I just wanted to let you know that racing in the Legends division can be VERY cost effective.  So far this year I have about 24 nights on my car and other than gas and oil, I have not put a dime into my car.  This is my 3rd year of racing and I am pretty much a mid-pack guy and other than the cost of driving to and from the races and gas and oil for the car, I'm sure I have been breaking even - or very darn close.  Where else can you have this kind of fun for very little cost.  I know if I was fishing I would be spending a lot more money than I have racing.  But on the flip side, if you crash, it can get expensive, so keep your eyes on the track ahead of you.  I don't know how it is at other tracks, but the group of guys we race with are a great group and most everyone is out to have FUN.  I have wanted to race as long as I can remember (I'm 50 years old) and finally got my chance with Legends and so far have absolutely no regrets.  Check out my website - www.backesracing.com.  Hope you take the plunge and have a great time like I am having.

Welcome to the site Chris,

So far, I've had nothing but fun at Cap City with my Legend.  I started at the end of last year with a 4 for fun POS, but after taking the BCR school, knew I had to move up to Legends.  Bought my Legend about 3 weeks after taking the school.  Haven't looked back.

I've had a couple of expenses I wasn't looking for, but I'm lucky enough to be able to do most of my own repair work.

In general, you can race a legend with very little cost.  If you don't want to be at the front, you can get away with 2 sets of tires for the season, plus a set for practicing on.  If you want to be really competitive, well of course the sky is the limit on what you can spend.

I change my oil every 3 races.  I bought all the oil up front to get a good discount on the oil and filters.  I would recommend about a dozen left and a dozen right heims to change each heim at the beginning of the season, but after that it's only parts you break that are extra.

In my case, a long axle, and replaced the upper link lollipop (3 times).  A couple of link rods and a steering arm.  Oh yeah, and an engine rebuild.

Mike

Hello Gentlemen my name is Taylor, I go by knuclebuster.  I bought a new legends car back in september.  I am not a racer, but tired of going an watching all the time.  My current interest is modifiying my car within the rules set forth to be the safest I can make it.  My plans is to run test and tunes at couple of the dirt and asphalt tracks in the surrounding area(texas, ark and maybe mississippi).  My current priorities include fire suppression, cockpit padding, helmets, gloves and all the other things related to protecting myself .  I will worry about speed later.  I have somewhat of a mechanical background that should help me ,with the help of you guys, to get the setup of the car when necessary.  I look forward to hearing from you guys who have been involved in legends and other forms of racing to help me make the decisions i need to make in the next couple of months to set myself up for alot of safe fun on the track.

Welcome to Legends racing Knucklebuster.  I'm sure you will enjoy being behind the wheel a whole lot more than being a spectator.  For me, it has been much better than watching.  I've wanted to race since I was a little kid and I finally got behind the wheel 3 years ago at the age of 47 and haven't had a minute of regret yet.  Of course, that might change the first time I have a nasty crash.  So far I have been lucky.

Good luck to you - and safe racing.

Hello from Northern California.

Actually today it feels more like Lake Tahoe. 30 degrees right now.

Anyway, I bougt a Legend car at the end of the season. I was able to run 2 races which was just enough to inform myself how horribly this thing handles. My plan is to run a full season in 09'. I have done various racing throughout my life but never a car. Karts were the closest that I got to that. I have raced dirt bikes, karts, tunnel boats, v-bottom boats, and speed skiing. I have always wanted to drive a car so here I am.

After boat racing, this should be much less expensive (and you will not have to worry about the car sinking).   :)

Going back through the old posts will give you a lot of information on legends cars.  I am new to these cars also, and most of the knowledge I have on them has come from this site.

Hi all, my name is Mike and we race in NC.  After 25 yrs in Karts and some Late Models, I spent the last 3 yrs with my youngest son in Bando's.  He just turned 12 and moved into the Legends, as will my oldest son when he's home from school.  We're just getting our feet wet with the Legend, but I would gladly give my thoughts to the guys/gals  with their Bando questions.  We found many improvements over the past 3 years on the flowbench and dyno while running the Bando.  (I'm playing with the Legends carbs on the bench, but don't feel real confident with myself  yet.)   Good luck to all in '09!

hello  my name is gil  im 52. My son alex is the racer . This his 2 year in legends he came in 9 in semi pro. 3 years ago he came in 2 in bando young guns.  we did not know any thing about racing. In the past two years I have spent alot on setups books and talking to people at the tracks. we race on paved tracks  in Ill - ind - wis - I  think we finally have the right set up for flat and banked tracks. we had motor problems last part of the season. learned so much about what to do  and not do . Every year we learned something new the more people you help the better  you become.

Welcome.  You should be able to get a lot of information from this site on getting up and running.

That Ashville area is really great.  I've been out there a few times on vacations out to Lowe's and Darlington.  Too bad they have not re-opened the track in Ashville.  Sounds like it was a really fun place.  Looks like it would have been great for legends.

Welcome Nate.  Read every post on the forum.  This forum has one of the best coverage of legends racing.  If it hasn't already been asked, post a question.  Someone will answer.  Make use of the search feature to look for a subject and you'll likely find what you are looking for.

Above all, never hesitate to ask a question you think might be stupid.  Someone else can  benefit from answers to your question.

Hello All

I race in the UK National Legends Cars championship, racing taking place on tracks such as Brands Hatch and Silverstone.

I race a 1934 Ford Coupe and in 2008 completed my first full season, finishing 10th in the points, from a field of 3o something cars.

Came across this forum surfing the net and must say it is the best place on the net for finding answers!!!

Im sure i will be pestering you all for more info at some point,

KB, its not what it seems at silverstone, we only use the 'national' track configuration, a big triangle really, but still its nice to say i have raced there!!

i love formula one but the new front heavy aero rules are not to my liking!!

This year i am looking to compete in Simi pro in the central Florida area at tracks such as Orlando,Alburndale and Desoto. I am allso looking to get my feet wet at some summer shootout races as well.I don't mind getting my hands a little dirty in fact i love to work on my on equipment i think it teaches me skills that i'll need latter on in my racing career. But in the long run i guess i can just sum up me as a true racer i love racing and every thing about it and would'nt change that for any thing.

Got this note from one of our new members:

I am a Bando guy. Kind of new to the Bandos, but been racing all my life with Supertrucks, Late Models, ARCA, Craftsman Trucks and Busch. We do not have a lot of Bandos in the Nashville, TN area and the guys that do have them will not help. Hell, even the guy I bought this wrecked car from will not even help. To top that off they are not going to race them here in Nashville this year.
I'm just trying to gain some knowledge of this weird creature that 600 has created. I will be asking some questions and posting some stuff on here, because this is the only place I have found that has this much info for this car.
Thanks to you and the rest of the guys for  your knowledge and advice.

I was just introduced to this site by a Legends driver. I do not drive a Legends car (and I'm basically a road cone in the enduro pickup truck I race anyway), but I wouldn't mind turning a few laps in one.

I am actually a writer who developed a distinct interest in Legends after they were brought back to Riverhead Raceway on Long Island last year. They hadn't run at Riverhead in seven years, and I wanted to reintroduce the class to the fans. I got to know a lot about the cars, and I got to know many of the drivers (who, I must say, have been among the most helpful, personable, cooperative and just all-around great people I've ever had the fortune of knowing).

The 2009 season has taken me from Long Island up to Bethel Motor Speedway in White Lake, New York, where I am now the official track PR writer. For anyone who doesn't know the story, it's a great, rustic 1/4-mile asphalt track that was closed for a year and a half before being reopened last year under new ownership. I worked with the management at the track last year for the promotion of the LegendStock 2008 race, and only got the opportunity to visit the track once in November of last year. When I heard they were looking for a PR person for the 2009 season, I couldn't let that kind of opportunity slip past, in spite of the 3 to 3-1/2 hour ride it is for me to get there each week. It is well worth the drive.

I am fortunate in that - in addition to my PR duties - I am getting the chance to work one-on-one with drivers and the track management on the development of the Legends and Bandolero division at the speedway. I have a very positive outlook on what I feel can be achieved there, and I encourage drivers and teams to give me as much feedback as possible to help make this a successful venture!

Hello ladies and gentlemen!

My name is John Schwemler and I live in Petawawa, Ontario, Canada.  My local track is Capital City Speedway which I know MegaMang and
Ricky Bobby are currently running, actually I work on cars for the person that MegaMang bought his car off of.

I'd heard about guys trying setups from the forums at the track, and I thought I would take a look and see what people have been learning, both good and bad.  My main interest in all oval track racing is chassis setup.  I have a strong family background in chassis setup, growing up helping my father build and setup up to 14 cars in one season.  I've been involved with the CASCAR Super Series and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series for 9 years, and helped out various other cars from Four for Fun to ASA Late Models.  I have been helping out with the Legends car I work on since the driver made the switch to Legends from CASCAR Sportsman about 3 years ago.  Since then he's qualified for asphalt Nationals twice and dirt Nationals once and has many feature wins.

I will be using this forum to attempt to gain more knowledge about the Legends cars, discuss different setup trends, as well as begin shopping for my own Legends car which I plan on purchasing sometime in 2010 based around my occupation's needs for me overseas protecting my country  (read between the lines).  I'd like to use my pre and post overseas vacation to setup the car and shop for the summer of 2011.

My government employs me as a welder/fabricator, autobody repair and painter, machinist as well as a bunch of other things.  Kind of a jack of all trades job, master of none, basically giving me just enough knowledge to get by but by no means an outstanding expert.  I also own a small business that had been selling performance car parts, Petawawa Performance.

Thank you all for allowing me to join your community.

John Schwemler

Glad to have you on here.  You will find a lot a great information on legends cars.  If you have one of those heated Canadian garages we keep hearing about from your fellow countrymen, please do not bring it up too often during the winter months.  It makes our unheated American garages feel that much colder.  ;)
Title: Re: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"
Post by: John_Schwemler on June 29, 2009, 05:03:50 pm
JG...

There are unheated garages?

I'm still working on mine (garage before car mentality)
It is a 26' deep by 32' wide w/ a 10.5' ceiling.  Dual doors on the front and enough room between the bays to fit a smaller car/set up plate.
Until I have a car its my pride and joy.  I'll post a new thread in another forum sometime when I have pics to show it off!  ;)

I'll feel some empathy for you come the winter months when your cold, if you appreciate that it takes me 3 hrs to snowblow my driveway before I can even go out to the garage!  :)

Welcome.  You should be able to find a lot of good information on here.  Are the legends cars just raced on road courses, or do they also race on ovals in your part of the world?

Hey everyone, my name is Dustin McGrew. I'm 23 and from Pittsburgh, PA. I'm looking at getting into Legends for next season so please bear with me as I ask the noob questions around here ;) I've been an avid simracer for atleast 10 years now and after getting a "real" job I'm FINALLY able to afford my own racecar! YES!!  ;D

I'm the same way. I'm Lee from SC. Been racing karts along the east coast pretty heavy for the past 11 years from Daytona to NY. Thinking I could try something that might be a lil cheaper in the long run. So finally able to get my on car and planning on running mostly dirt with it @ Carolina Speedway and East Lincoln Speedway this coming year. So I might have a few ignorant Q's from time to time. lol

Also I run my own screen printing company so check it out.

Thanks

Hello, I'm Richie.  My son Ricky and I recently acquired a 34 ford sedan that he will be driving at Wall Stadium in NJ. We've been going to Wall for quite some time now and when Ricky got old enough to drive here we built a factory stock. He raced and won in it for a couple years and then we built a street stock. We sold the street stock and got the legend for the coming season. We might also travel to a couple other asphalt tracks here on the east coast. I'm sure we are going to have some questions about parts / setups etc. I've been reading some of the posts and it seems people on here are very helpful .         Thanks , Richie           MERRY CHRISTMAS

Hello my name is Dave and I am a racing addict...  (((hello dave))))

I have been racing for the past 20 years... I started down in the San Jose area in the 80's (foreign stocks, dirt late models and sprints 100s), then moved to Portland OR in the 90's and raced late models at the Portland Speedway (with the infamous Biffleberry ::)) A few years ago I ran a dirt sportsman, sold it & bought a midget...

I am now wanting to get into legend cars... and have the midget up for sale/trade (for a legend)... You can see pics & get details at myspace.com/davefordmotorsports

Thanks for all of the info you all have given me already, I appreciate it!

Hello.....
My name is Gerad Miller and this is my first year racing anything.....My wife and I bought a used legends car (37" Chevy Sedan Blue 49) in March, spray painted the bumper yellow and began racing two weeks later.....We reside in Centerville, OH and and race in the F.A.S.T. Midwest series traveling between Kil-Kare Speedway (Xenia, OH), Columbus Speedway (Columbus, OH), Anderson (IN) Speedway and Kentucky Speedway (Sparta, KY).
I have been wanting to get into racing for years and have finally been able to afford it.  So far I have only ran 5 races and managed to destroy my engine.......now that I have a second "used" engine I am ready to continue learning and loving this fantastic adventure......
My wife Mary is my only crew so you may see her login as me from time to time and impersonate me.  So if it appears I am saying something extra silly it is definitely not me......it's her.

Additionally my wife and I like to ask a lot of questions and are eager to learn as much as we can!!!  So please be patient as we may ask some really silly stuff.

I should point out this is my first blogish/forum thing too.....so good luck to all of us!

Sounds like you are getting around. Sorry about the engine! Happens though. Hope you are able to rebuild the old one for a back up.

Have Mary sign up on the site also. Since she is your one woman crew, I'm thinking that she might have some interesting questions. Remember; There is no such thing as a stupid question... Only the ones that don't get asked.  ;)

Best Of Luck!

Hey,

My name is John.  I 56 years old and about to retire.  I have been involve in racing since the age of 12.  I have driven  everything from street stocks on asphalt, SCCA road racing in F production,  drag racing,  Minstocks, to most recently a Dirt Super Late Model in the Mid Atlantic region.   I was drawn to Legends cars because of the wide variety of venues, light weight (Too old to push a 2300 lb car around the shop) ,  relatively standard rules and cost.  My grand plan is to travel across the country with my wife in the RV/trailer and find a place to race once a week.  Legends cars appear to be the best fit.  I would like to write about the people and places along the way.  As a rookie to this class I would appreciate any guidence on purchasing a car, spares and basic set up I would need to make this journey.  Many thanks,  John

You've got everything right except the "race once a week" part.
Buy 2 cars, one for asphalt and one for dirts, and I bet you could race 3 times per week!  :)

Welcome to the site.

Hi,
My name is Kathy. My son, Ted, has been a car/racing fanatic since forever. We are finally trying to get him involved in racing. Have contacted the local legends/bando dealer, but need a bit more 'mentoring' than he seems to have time for. Stumbled upon this forum... looks like just the ticket! Especially for a family with no hands-on racing background. Another part of the forum said this type of racing is like a big gov't secret, and I couldn't agree more.  We are working on trying bandos.
Really excited to get involved, and looking forward to 'meeting' all the folks here.
Oh, we live in a suburb/rural area south of Minneapolis/St. Paul (aka the Great White North).
See you 'round!
Regards,
Kathy H.

Hi Kathy,

Welcome to Legends Racer!!!
Always good to see new members introduce themselves. Lots of friendly and knowledgable folks here on the site.
Ed, over at bandostuff, has helped our bando section of the forum quite a bit. Here is a link to some info from his site. It will be quite helpful. He's also a dealer. http://www.bandostuff.com/UsefulLinks.html

Tristan, Chance and Paul are some of our young bando drivers. They have been very helpful and encouraging to new drivers. There are several parents that contibute to our site also. As far as the "Big Government, Top Secret, Cover Up" thing; Our bando section has come a long way in the last 3 years. Read through the old threads and learn what you can from them. We will all try to help with any questions you may have.

If you have any questions, concerns, need help finding info here on the site, etc... Please feel free to message or email me. I am always willing to help where I can.

Best Wishes,

You may have noticed a little envy from the southern contingent and more from the northern US contingent...  Some of us up here in Canada like to put radiant heat in our garages...  During the long lonely winter months we will pine away, laying on our backs working under the race car while dreaming of racing.  But we are warm!  Our cars hit the tracks looking oh so clean.  All signs of last year's carnage carefully painted over.

Only trouble is, we don't get enough track time to compete with those southern boys.

I went down to Winter Nationals in Orlando in February.  Got my butt handed to me by those lads that race 80 races a year.  This year we've had 8 races so far and there are only two left this season.  Wish I'd picked a warmer year to go down and play with the big boys.  I swear it was colder down in Orlando than up here in Ottawa!

Welcome to the nut house!
Mike

Welcome.  You will not only be able to find bando information, but our neighbors to the North can give you information of properly heating a garage.   :)

Hi! My name is Mark and below is my background.....

I have been driving some sort of race car since 1981 all in the Wisconsin area. Spent 22 years Figure-8 racing at Slinger Super Speedway along with some enduro and spectator drag racing.  7-time Figure-8 champ at Slinger, one time Wisconsin State spectator drag champ at LaCrosse.  Raced super stocks at WIR for three years before getting involved in Legends dirt racing mainly at Beaver Dam in 2009 & 2010.  Purchased my own Legends car(34 Ford coupe) from a gentlemen in NC late last summer and ran two shows, one at Slinger and one at Madison at end of last season.  I plan on running dirt for 2011 at Beaver Dam on Saturdays this year along with my car every other Friday at Madison, three shows at Wisconsin Dells, maybe some at Slinger, and whatever else comes along.

Hi, Adam here.

Race with the PA Hillclimb series (sat past two seasons out, due to hurt motor)

Looking to pick up a Legends Chassis to play with once my Mach 1 sells and hopefully build it and get it ready to run the INEX rules for our 2012 season.

Race it a season following the INEX rules, then modify the snot out of it and go for the unlimited class..

Hi Adam,

Welcome to LegendsRacer!!!

What is the deal on the PA Hillclimb Series? Any site link?
Do they require you to run under INEX rules for Legends Cars...
Or is it more along the lines os SCCA rules?

Steve

Here's my article in a magazine covering me, the car, and the series. http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/features/mmfp_0903_2003_mach_1_mustang/index.html (http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/features/mmfp_0903_2003_mach_1_mustang/index.html)

My Youtube channel is NJ03Mach1 PAHillclimb.org is our site.

A Legends car running the series would follow INEX rules. After a season, or pending how much seat time I get, I plan on modifying the car that would move me out of the INEX class and into our unlimited class. I'm thinking tons of engine work, and possibly a turbo.. Going to start with a Chassis first, I found one in your F/S section in NJ for pretty cheap. Shot them an email, and I'll be posting in the thread in a moment..

Had a guy a few years back that was thinking about a Busa 1300 turbo in a legends chassis. He broke his back in a horse incident and I haven't heard from him in awhile. I know that the engine he bought from a wrecked bike didn't pass inspection. Stress fractures in the case on the engine.

Thanks for the introduction and the links!

Funny you say that...

That's one of the ideas I've had to get me into the unlimited class. Until now, I've not found an "active" legends forum that could help with hybrid swaps etc etc.. really just starting to learn the whole setup of these things.. I'll be asking a lot of questions I'm sure.. specifically in the brake department haha

The legends forums are pretty much limited to Legends Cars. There are a few thoughts that were thrown around between Shaun (Pegalis) and I about the Busa engine and Wilwood dics in the old threads. I think I still have some of his thoughts in some emails. Would be more than happy to share those and my thoughts via emails. The LegendsRacer forum is geared towards working within the current Legends Car Rules.

Don't wanna stir the pot or step on any toes  :o . I'll try to keep my questions limited to what falls within INEX rules for now then..

Hill climbs look like fun (except for Pikes Peak).  When they show that on TV I get nervous just watching.   :o

Welcome to the site.  Some of the road race folks on here might have advice that would carry over to hill climbing.

I haven't experienced it yet, but I'm sure smashing through trees at speed isn't to fun either.

I've known a few that have crashed on our hills in one form or another.. The most recent in my memory was a Nissan 350z fully track prepped BIG $$$$$ car, going off the hill BACKWARDS at the finish line, at full speed striking quite a few trees a good 20-30' off the ground and a barrel roll or two until coming to a rest completely and insanely demolished. That was two years ago now... Last I heard, the driver was still in the process of recovery.. (haven't had an update in a while)

We've had some serious, serious injuries, and a few fatalities... but, it's all part of the sport I guess. You could break your neck getting out of bed, doesn't mean ya have to stay in it!

If you'd like, or anyone would.. I'll dig through Youtube and find some wrecks of the hills I've personally been on.. I've come close to wrecking a few times, but haven't got bit yet (being the key word)

It makes me appreciate roll bars, retaining walls, and level tracks.  Seeing the semis do the Pikes Peak hill climb on ESPN has to be one of the craziest things I have seen on TV.  Then again, I guess that would be second behind motorcycle demo derby.    :o

So many of you seem to have been into racing for generations! This is our first instroduction. So, you can imaging that our days are full of working on the car (Kevin and Ted), finding and ordering safety gear (Kathy), and looking forward to what arrives in the mail, and the start of practice. It does a mom's heart good to see her son walking around in his fire suit & helmet, practicing getting in & out of the car, working side-by-side with his dad. We are excited! (and nervous)

Hey all! My name is Chance Overholt. I have been racing Legends for about a year now in the great state of Washington. My background is pretty diverse. I have raced everything from slot cars to RC cars to Quarter Scale RC Cars to Late Models and now I have migrated to Legends cars. Im having a great time racing these cars. They are a blast to drive and very inexpensive. I also do a lot of stickers and a bit of airbrushing.

Hi Chance,

Welcome to LegendsRacer!

So how did you get from slot cars and RC's to Late Models and Legends? Where are you racing in Washington? I ran my first oval track race at Ephrata back in the '80's. Have you run Stateline, Idaho yet? Any plans to come up to Montana with the Washington group this year?

Steve

Post by: Chunk on May 17, 2011, 07:34:36 pm
I raced slot cars when I was pretty young ( I still do!!) and migrated to Rc's. Racing those, I got involved with some guys who raced late models. I learned quite a bit about race cars and setup and eventually bought my own late model. Though it was fun, I never had the budget to compete. One saturday, while at a late model race, I decided I wanted to try something different. I was the first of my friends to buy a Legend. Since then, I have brought about 5 of my friends from late models into Legends. We mostly race at Columbia Motor Speedway Park in Hermiston Oregon. Legends still race at Evergreen Speedway (Monroe WA), Wenatchee Valley Super Oval, and South Sound Speedway. I have not been able to race at Montana Raceway Park as of yet, but I am looking forward to it. We go there every year for the Montana 200, and we even won it a few years back. Thus far, I have raced in Hermiston, Stateline Idaho, Wenatchee, and the Las Vegas Bullring.

Hello, my name is Scott Uttech.  I'm going to be a rookie in the legends class in Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin.

Racing isn't new to me, I've raced modified 4 cylinders on pavement for about 9 seasons at Jefferson Speedway.  I've raced the stock 4 cylinders for one year at Beaver Dam Speedway (won the midseason championship and made it over the back wall in corner 3) and raced 2 years in IMCA modifieds on dirt at Dodge county raceway and Beaver Dam Speedway where I was more entertaining than impressive.

I'm looking forward to racing in this class as it's always looked like fun, and I'm tired of racing in classes where you have to build a new car every 2 years because of rule changes, or technology.  It was fun building all of those cars, but I'm not 25 anymore.

I'll be learning a new class and basically a new surface.   I was a top 5 driver on asphalt, but asphalt really doesn't teach you anything about dirt.

Best of luck to everyone in the upcoming year!!

Still just a rat in a cage...

I've been in the Bando forum since last year.  Just bought our Legend and looking forward to it.  A bit overwhelmed with it  at the moment but I'm sure we'll get it going.  We race at ODS but probably will not even attempt a Legends race until late in the year.  We have 7 years running QM's and a year in the Bando.  Good to see more folks will be racing at ODS.  It's a competitive class and always gets around 20 (or more) cars.  Very fast track!

See you guys there and enjoy the "off" season!

Hello I am Ricky Plunge I use to race karts for 7 years then I stopped racing for 4 years. during those 4 years I was a tech official for bandos and legends. (yes I know most people hate the tech guy but I never had problems with my regular racers made a lot of good friends even when i dqed them lol) Anyway last year I started racing a legend in the last 4 weeks. The guys I race with told me how they were surprised how quickly I picked the car up and was able to keep up with the field after only 3 races. I am from Joliet IL and I race at grundy co speedway in Morris IL. I run the number 77 legend.

Hello,

i live out in the seattle area by way of arizona

So here's the deal most people laugh when I tell them I like to race due to the fact I am 6'8" and about 290 not fat just big.  I have been racing on and off since my teenage years mostly streetstock and dirt mod experience. a little late model time as well as scca road stuff and shifter karts  yada yada yada.  2 boys forced sale of modified (don't regret it one bit) but I think legends racing seems to be economical enough not 30k plus a year in racing V8's

Seems that once you get your car a new motor and tires and a few odds and ends barring buying a new car you can actually race for under 5k a season is this true?

So here's the question everybody knows is coming... wait for it...  Is it possible for me to actually fit in and drive mostly legs I'm worried about access to pedals and actual use of them mostly have read about tall guys just moding the steering shaft to move the wheel closer to the driver and allow more room for the knees and i also found an old post from back east somewhere might have been this forum about car weight discussion referring to a 6'7 guy with a car that weighed 1400+ with him in it and he had masters championships plural under his belt.  think it said he was a dirt guy,  trying to hunt that lead down to ask some more questions  but what is the max amount of room you can get out of a car any tall guys drive around here maybe a  6"4"+ guy

I would really like to get back into racing and don't really want to get back into karts any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

TitanOO

You should fit in a sedan, not sure about a coupe. Definately not a bubble top coupe.
On dirt you can get through a full season, barring any destruction for a couple thousand easily. Asphalt will use more tires, but will still easily be in your budget.

Welcome to the forum  ;D

I'm 6'2" and 230 and I fit fine.  I have a sedan and I have sat in the coupes.  I don't fit that well in the bubble coupes though.  I have moved my steering wheel heim joint up as far as it goes to help get into the car.  I've never had to move the wheel closer, although I think that would be a driver preferance.   I know some guys run a sprint car style seat and that too will give you more room.  You should easily get by cheap in dirt legends do to lower use of tires.    Welcome to the forum and feel free to ask questions anytime

Hey Folks!

My name is Brian from Raleigh, NC and this will be my first season racing Legends (asphalt). I grew up around racing, but waited until I was 40 this year to actually give it a try! My father and I decided it might be a fun way to spend time together to go race once a month for fun. My father has experiance in racing with working crew on some North East Dirt mods, racing off roads buggies, and demo derby cars. But, Legends will be new for both of us. I have no doubt I will have plenty of dumb questions for you.

Hi, Brian -

We just started with Bandos last year, and moving onto Legends this year. Our 13/14-year-old son, that is. No racing background what-so-ever, so you have a lead on us already! Hope you & your dad have a grand time... it's been great for the relationship between dad & son in our house.

All the best,

Hello, my name is Robbie and I am 16. I live in Laurel, MS and I am going to start racing legend cars this year at Sunny South Raceway. I started racing dirt oval go-karts in 2009 and now I want to race legends. We do not have a car yet, but I am going to the Lone Star Legends Driving School at the end of this month. After that, we will be looking for a used legend car and will start racing at SSR. Just wanted to introduce myself on here, and I have already found some useful information.

Hello,

My name is Scott Wiegele and I will be a rookie in the dirt legends series at Beaver Dam,Wi. I have always wanted to get back into racing as I have not done anything since the mid 80's back at Hales Corners,Wi and was a backup driver for a friend of mine in the " Hales Whales division ". Had to take care of the family since we started young and now that the boys are grown up, it's time to start something new.

I wish I would have done something sooner ( 47 ), but I found this series last year and fell in love with the cars. My father and I don't have much experience with motorcycle stuff, so we may be asking alot of questions that might seem common knowledge to most and dumb to others as we grow into the legends series. Any and all help will go a long way as we venture into this.

Hope everyone has a great 2012 season.

Scott Wiegele

Im William Lochner and I race sprint karts right now about 15 minutes north of Texas Motor Speedway. I started racing last April the week after the Cup race at TMS. I love kart racing but have wanted to race legend cars ever since they were introduced in the 90's. My goal is to be racing legend cars either within the next year or soon after graduating college (Im in the middle of college right now). I love racing and thats all I have ever wanted to do since I was a tiny kid and loving that I finally got my start.

One thing I am really wanting to know is cost compared to clone sprint kart racing. I saw one thread about the cost to run these cars but didnt get much of a grasp of the cost. I know the cost to get in is expensive, around $10k, but what does it cost for the season? I saw one figure of $3,757 or so, is that about what it is for the majority of everyone before the cost of crashes? I have millions of questions but will spend the next few days/weeks reading through the forum to see what I can learn before throwing questions out there :)

Hopefully I'll be racing against some of you guys soon!

Welcome aboard.
Feel free to ask away, lots of great guys with tons of knowledge on here.
I spent less than $1400 all last season (18 races), but never wrecked hard, so thats definately on the low end...hope I can do it again
Title: Re: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"
Post by: Lochner Racing on April 15, 2012, 03:40:15 pm
Thats what I like to here!!  ;D Ive spent more than that in the cheapest kart racing class in only 10 club races and one national race. It sounds like Legend cars are inexpensive to race until you need a motor rebuild or crash. Is that an accurate assumption?

That sounds great having the comparison to the IMCAs and all of the dirt classes! I was given a little grief from a few guys in my kart class that used to race dirt cars but switched to karts after 20-30 years. I would have a Legends car right now if I could afford one right now, I cant afford to sell everything I own though. Soon though!! I think wanting to do this for about 15 years now is good enough justification to just go for it.... right?!?!? I do NOT want to be  a keyboard hero one bit!

Thanks for the welcome Gimpster and Steve!

I am going to try to make it a plan to hang out at TMS over the summer when I am not racing my kart so I can get to know the drivers there. I dont know how to get into the infield though to be around the real action in the pits. I know a few people down here in TX that might be able to help out with that though

Thanks everyone for all the information I've been able to get by lurking here for the last few weeks.

Unfortunately, I think I bought a car that can't be raced because the VIN plate is missing and there is no title.  I should have started reading a week or so earlier.  It was a really great deal and I'll now have a bunch of extra parts.  Now I need to find some money to buy another car.

I am having a ton of fun tearing the car apart and I hope I'll be able to get it back together.
Title: Re: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"
Post by: justfreaky on August 31, 2012, 07:49:52 pm
You still might be able to get it titled. Most tracks don't tend to check so close on the title; So you still may be able to race it. Once in awhile I see people wanting to sell tile and VIN plate. You can call USLC  and explain your situation. Perhaps with whatever info you are able to supply, they can issue you a new title.

Glad you are enjoying the site. Lots of good people here that will help you with whatever questions you have. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Regards,

Steve

Just because you don't currently have a title or vin does not mean that all you have is a pile of parts. Talk to Jim, DJ, Ethan, or any of our members that race Beaver Dam. I am sure they will try to help you out. DO visit Jim in the pits and help him out. He's an old man and needs all the help he can get.  ;D Seriously, he's a good guy and can teach you a lot.

G'day everyone, my name is Stewart. I live  in an outer suburb of Sydney Australia. I used to race midgets in the mid to late 90's after learning to swing spanners for my Dad's mates as  a 12yr old. I grew up around midget racing so dirt racing is in my blood & lord knows I've had my breaks from it but once it's in your system it's in you for life! Lol. My 1st experience driving before even knew how to drive a road car was a sprintcar (Gambler ;) )belonging to my Dads mate who he was crew chief for but Dad couldn't fit in the car so I got the go at a test/practice day. I was 15 & I was hooked! Lol. Anyway I've also had one goes in a street stock , an amca national ( similar to your imca mods) & my last stint in speedway was speedway karts & was very competitive for my modest budget & over a 6 year period collected quite alot of trophies too :) but haven't raced dirt for about 6yrs now & have been doing some drag racing where I took out the track championship for my class in my 1st season lol. But everything has now. Come full circle & I miss the wheel to wheel adrenalin rush of speedway racing & I'd love to strap my backside into a midget again but they are just too expensive these days & karts are just too hard on the body. So value for dollar I'm seriously looking at buying a Legend car to run at Sydney Speedway next year as the excitement for the $ seems to be the best & I still prefer open wheel to having fenders. I've had a read through some topics & comments on here & it seems like there's some genuine friendly, helpful & happy people on here that I look forward to getting to know & chat with & who knows one of these days I might be able to get my butt over there & meet some of you in person & maybe rent a ride or 2 while I'm there which is something I should've done 20 years ago when I was midget racing lol. Anyway thankyou for taking the time to read my story, I did try to keep it short & hopefully not too boring!

Cheers
Stewie  ;D

It's a great opprortunity for so many people racing Bandoleros and Legend  Cars to express view points and questions on a site like this and look forward to reading many of your posts

I live in Billings, MO.  and we are really looking forward in learning and racing with the legend cars,  if anyone has questions for me, e-mail at any time, and I am sure I will have plenty of questions I will need help with in this  new adventure!,
Thanks,

I'm Eric Jones, 2012 was my first year racing.  We race out of the Northern Virginia area.  2012 was a pretty good year for us, 14 races with a bunch of rainouts and exceeded all the goals we set out for ourselves, which included getting my ass kicked by iracelegends77 aka Scott.  I deploy in the winter, so that I'm able to race throughout the year.  We'll begin 2013 with Winter Nationals, and I'm not sure where we'll end up racing... probably Shenandoah, and hopefully the Summer Shootout.

You can follow us on facebook at facebook.com/ericjonesracing and on twitter at EricJones_51 (i think).

Good to hear that you exceeded your goals your first year.
Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you beat Scott.
Other than telling you to stay away from Vern, I don't know if he'll help you out alot.  ;D
I hope you are enjoying the site. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank You for your service

Joe here from San Diego.  Long time road racer in SCCA, IMSA, NASA going Legends oval racing.  Just bought a fixer upper car.  Some basic quetions,  what do entry fees cost and how often do you go through tires, I know the tire thing is very dependant on track etc, just want to get a general feel.  Also is there any prize money or contingency money available?

Thanks from a Noob to Oval Racing.

Welcome to the site Joe.
It all depends on the track you're at. In WI, pit passes are usually $25, and it's $250 to win at regular shows, but that will vary from track to track, and series to series.
We also have a points fund in our series here.

Depending on the cut of your tires, and how fast you want to go, I know people that put tires on every 3 races, and some that will go 8-10 races on a set

Hi, I am Jeff Neal from Bend, Oregon and I just bought a Legends Car out of Phoenix that was road raced in Phoenix and Las Vegas.  I have been autocross racing for about 9 years and have done a few track days and a CHUMP car race.  I bought the car to autocross race with and to participate in track day events (all road course race type events).  We can also run on a kart track in Medford, OR.

I have already gotten some great help on the board and really appreciate all of the friendly help.  This is my first motorcycle engine powered car, so I have some learning to do.

Hi, I am Todd Garren from Asheboro, NC. Been wanting to race all my life and starting to get enough money saved up to get serious about getting into it. I think Legends is a great place for me to get my fix as well as give my son the opportunity I did not have when he gets a little older. He is really into race cars already at 3 years old so if he wants to take over Dad's car one day I want him to have that opportunity. I have been following local short track racing here in NC since I was 7. Always wanted to drive a late model but unless I win the lottery never going to have the dough to do that lol. Legends car look really fun and in my price range and skill level tho. Hoping to learn as much as possible and avoid as many of the newbie headaches as I can when i decide to take the plunge. Probably be another year or so until I am ready to buy unless a used car comes across that is too good to pass up. Any and all advice, connections etc is greatly appreciated. Far as tracks go probably mostly run Caraway as that is only a few minutes from my house but if I get competitive enough maybe do some traveling to some of the other tracks around here. Mainly this will be something to have fun with and working on I am not getting in to quit my job and start a career in racing or anything. Probably look at doing the test drive down at Charlotte at some point unless someone can get me in touch with someone willing to rent their car out for a Caraway practice.

Thanks, read through most of the threads regarding buying cars. Still trying to work out what all I should look for. I've found several cars in the area that seem like good deals and are within my budget but I guess I am a bit terrified of taking advantage of.
Title: Re: Official "Introduce Yourself Thread"

VIN and title are a big issue to look for. Also, is the car up to date to meet current rules? Be sure to read through the current rulebook.
Sealed or open engine is your choice. Get as many spares as you can if you choose to buy a used car. Extra parts are always a plus. Less money, should you need them. If you are serious about buying a car in the next year, you may want to start buying your gear (suit, gloves, under garmets). Leave things like current helmet and seat belts until you get the car.

if you get a VIN can you just email it to 600 and have them tell you the history on the car?

Names Garrett, I live in Las Cruces NM.  I've got a 9 year old son that races karts here at the Southern New Mexico Speedway in the Jr1 class. I'm thinking that a legends car will be a good next step when he's ready for it.
So I'll be lurking around learning about legends as we progress with the karting.

I have raced at the SNMS, and i must say it is a great facility. Bandolero's would be a good option if they lived in Albuquerque. They dont race Bandolero's in the las Cruses area. Napa Speedway in  Abq,NM is the only asphalt track that races bandolero's and legends.   ;D

Might be worth talking to the track owner to see if they would be willing to add the Bando cars. We have had a couple of members that race Bando's on dirt. Sounds fun!!!

Hello my name is Barry from Erie, PA. I started going to an asphalt track in Clearfield, PA when I was younger then it was closed. Moved to Erie last year and found out about the legends. I think shortly I might be interested in a car so I'm here to learn. I once was told to " fill your library before your garage. With that being said I'm hopping to learn a little and meet up with a team from Lake Erie Speedway to show me a few things.  Anyone from Erie that needs or is interested in a shadow for a little bit please pm me. :)

Hi everyone, I'm Brandon From Windsor, Ontario, Canada (adjacent to Detroit Mi). I've been involved in auto racing all of my life and just started in the US legend cars in 2013. We purchased a brand new '34 Ford Coup from Canada's newest legends dealer, Mccoll Racing Enterprises in London.

I started racing at 10 years old in CASCAR Jr (essentially a Bandolero without suspension), then moved to a JCAR Mini Truck, and now into the legend cars. I have a few races behind me and  man these cars are a lot of fun to drive!

Hi everyone. I am Rob Thurston from Olivia, MN. I have been racing Legends Cars since 1998 in MN and Super Late Models from 01 to 04 (too expensive!). Raced for points from 98 to 06 and have since just been racing for fun whenever schedule allows. Raced asphalt from 98 to 08 and dirt from 09 to 12, hoping to get back to asphalt some next year. I started racing Legends because the parents of my good friend Scott Brandt owned the Great North Legends dealership in MN.

Hi, my name is Ron Bennett. I am from Ellensburg, Washington. Recently started racing Legends and enjoying it very much. Have been involved with racing for a very long time. Raced late models etc. around the Northwest. Both of my boys are into racing. The oldest races Legends with me. Next month I reach the ripe old age of 70. Still love the competition and thrill. I have built many hotrods over the years but too old to build anymore.  I have a barn find, 40 Ford fordor sedan that runs and drives that needs restored. I may be willing to trade it for another Legend. I like this forum and have learned a great deal from it. Legends racing is coming back in the Northwest. Keith Van Dyne of Columbia River Legends, has done a great job with the series.  Keep up the great work with this site, I check it every day and always find something new. Thanks

Jason Treschl, living in LaGrange, GA, and will be racing dirt at New Senoia Raceway and Cochran Motor Speedway. I've got a bit of background with Bandos, and Pro Challenge race cars, but absolutely no experience on dirt. Will also try to do a bit of racing on the road course in the Charlotte infield during winter heat. Bought a used 37 Chevy 4 bar sedan and I am currently setting it up and getting it back in racing shape since it hadn't been raced since 2012.

Hey everybody, my name is Jason, and I had some questions about Bandolero racing. I live near Atlanta Motor Speedway, and I'm looking to get my 9 year old son into a car but I'm trying to narrow down the actual costs involved so that I can budget for it. I've done some research on the car and have a general understanding of how it works and what it costs. I'm trying to figure out exactly what costs I can expect on a weekly (per race) basis and a monthly basis depending on the number of races run. FINALLY! a lot of you have already been a big help and I look forward to speaking with you all moving forward. take care

Hi everyone! My name is Colt, I'm 31 and I live in Athens, Ga. I have been reading posts and doing research on this site for at least a month or so.  So I decided it was time I said hi and and thanks for the vast knowledge that is on this forum. I have learned so much from you guys!!

I am looking into maybe buying a legend car at some point in the "hopefully soon" future if finances allow.
Been a racing fan for many years but have never thought or considered that it might be something I could actually afford to do myself for fun. I have never raced anything competitively and I am by no means a " master mechanic", but I have been researching for a while to see if legends racing is something I could afford to do.
I have driven stock cars at driving schools and such and am planning to test drive a legend car at Atlanta Motor Speedway as soon as schedule will allow. Also looking forward to attending AMS "winter flurry series "over the next few months to learn as much as I can about what it takes to run and maintain one of these babies.

I do have a family and with our finances I would be pulling the car in a 7 x 12 open trailer behind the family Honda odyysey :)
Since Gresham Motorsports Park and Lanier National Speedway ( both tracks less than 20 miles from me) have both shut down, the closest Legends tracks to me are Atlanta Motor Speedway and Anderson Motor Speedway in SC. Both tracks that are over 80 miles from me.
I have no dreams of going beyond legends and probably wouldnt be able to run more than 10 to 15  races a year if that.
But to just own the car and have the opportunity to maintain it and race it is a thrill that I never thought would be possible for me.

Obviously still working out the details, but hopefully one day soon :)

Thanks everyone again for all the knowledge!

-Colt

Hi there!

Lisa, in northern NC, here... (by way of Chicago)

Long story short, my hubby (Ken) a former racer in IN of everything w/ wheels (back in the 80s) and I frequent our local short tracks (OCS & SoBo).

Basically, I'm a chimp and couldn't care less about the cookie-cutter Late Models, etc., but I love the Legends series.

I started chatting w/ a couple of the Legends drivers on Facebook, after a meet n greet at SoBo where they weren't to BE met or greeted lol, and shortly thereafter started a group on FB to help promote  the series,  teams, sponsors and races in a POSITIVE fashion.

Ran across you folks when one of our new members mentioned a race they have coming up....   so, here I am...  our group on FB is called, "Legends: Cars Too Cool to be Ignored !!    If there is ANYTHING we can do for you, please don't hesitate to look us up :)

Looking forward to Legends chat ~ how great that there's a site for like-minded folks  :)

Greetings from the western suburbs of Chicago, folks! I'm Ben.

I am 37 years old and haven't done much racing beyond AutoX and a perhaps a hundred laps or so in karts, but I guess you could say I've gotten the bug and am looking to pick up a Legends car over the winter. I'm pretty well convinced that a Legends car will be about as far as I'll ever want to go in racing, and I'm at peace with that. It seems like a heck of a lot of fun and it's almost affordable!

My budget will be pretty tight and this will pretty much deplete my  "fun and games fund" for the year once I figure in the cost of transportation, spares, etc. So my goals for 2015 will be pretty modest and I won't be shopping for a "ringer", obviously. Getting my feet wet with a solid car is more my agenda.

I want to get to know the car inside and out, find a local track to do a test and tune, maybe use it for a track day or two, and then maybe get it out into a race as a backmarker. Personally, I'd consider that to be a successful 2015.

I'm more interested in road racing, however it seems here in the Midwest, it's mostly the ovals, and I'm ok with that as well. I'm now starting my search for track information (what tracks run legends races? Where can I take the car for test and tunes and such) and I'm also starting to get into technical information. Time frame for getting a car will probably be late winter or early spring.

I'm looking forward to being as much of an information sponge as possible.

Welcome to the site.

For asphalt, the closest track to you that races would be Hawkeye Downs in Iowa.
You can test and tune at Rockford, but they do not race Legends there anymore.
A lot more options on dirt in Iowa and Wisconsin.

If you're looking to road race, I believe the Midwest Council allows Legends to race with the Spec Miata's. That would give you races at Blackhawk Farms, Autobahn, Road America, and I believe Mid Ohio.

Excellent information there! I really appreciate it.

On the learning curve, bell curve,I still feel very much on the flat portion. I don't yet know enough to know what questions to be asking. Not that you all aren't a friendly bunch, but when you're just starting out it's tough to get all the pieces to fit, so every little bit helps. Fortunately for me, I am not the first person to ask most of these questions and I do know how to use a search function!

Dirt vs Pavement; Just a bit different on set up (shocks, springs, etc...).
Look through some of the old threads on switching from dirt to pavement, or pavement to dirt. Lots of good thoughts on the subject.
There is a gear chart that Gerad put together to help with gear selection at various tracks.

Tim Sipes here from Salisbury,NC.  Just now getting into this and have no idea what I'm doing.  But I'm determined to have fun!  Bought a car from a buddy of mine that raced for a while....so at least I'm not completely in the dark.  If I get everything worked out by then, my first race will be August 21st at Concord Speedway.  My goals for that weekend are to learn a little and keep the car in one piece...lol.  Plan to ride around the back and not cause any trouble.  Would like to get to the point sometime where I understand how to set the car up and not have to rely on someone else.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, Im Derek and Im from Louisville, KY. Just joined this forum this week to learn as much as I can about these cars to see if I want to buy one and start my racing career at the age of 30. I've always loved racing and have always wanted to race. I did autocross for a few years which was fun and educational, but it didnt feed the need. I've done sim racing on iRacing for a couple years now maybe 3 years and that is a blast but there is no replacement for real speed. SO, here I am. This seems like a very helpful group and you all answer alot of questions. Looking forward to learning about these cars/sport and hopefully, racing next year.

They are done for this year so Im SOL on that option. Research is all I can really do for now, OR if there are any racers in this forum that live in Louisville or near by that wouldnt mind me bugging them about these cars, then that would be another option.

Greetings All,

My nickname is Tate and I'm from Massachusetts.  My son ran comp karts and dirt 600 Micro Sprints for over 12 years in the Northeast.  We did well and had a blast but college and work got in the way so we called it quits around 6 years ago.  We are now eager to get back to racing and after looking at Nema Light Midgets, USAC DMA and modified's we think Legends are a great way to go for us.  We really like the sealed engine rules and the standard car spec to not only keep cost down but it puts the competition in the drivers hands and the cars setup.  We have a good bit of experience with 600 then 636 engines we use to run and remember the endless challenges that engine rules presented which for a while were track specific! We sure do welcome a standard that is consistent across the country.

In addition to the car standards and sealed engines we also love that most race tracks in New England run Legends, oval and/or RC and we even have the option of running dirt in PA at many of our favorite tracks down there.  We are trying to learn as much as we can prior to buying used or building a new car.  We always enjoyed building our cars but cost does play in to as we are starting from scratch again.  We hope to get out to as many races as we can before the end of the season and talk with the folks that are running on a weekly basis and then put something together for next season.  Maybe we'll see some of you folks out there!

Hi Tate,

Welcome to the LegendsRacer site!

First thing you are going to want to look at is the rulebook.
    http://www.uslegendcars.com/

There is a good bit of information in the old threads here on the site. Here are a couple links that may be of interest to you:
    http://www.legendsracer.com/index.php?topic=288.0
    http://www.legendsracer.com/index.php?topic=72.0

Another suggestion is to go to your local track and talk to the drivers and crews. Most will be more than happy to help answer any questions or help you find a car.

I hope some of this helps. Best of luck to you and your son!

Steve

Hi all!

My name is Micaela, I am 21 and I am from the Phoenix area. I just recently bought a (new to me) legends car about 2 months ago. After giving the car a bit of love I am hoping to get my first track day in, in about a week! I am hoping to race next season over here on the west and get as much seat time in as I can. I come from somewhere around 10 years in dirt bikes and a few months in karts so this will be a new experience for me. Without this site, I would have no information about these cars and with a quick search I usually can find my answers. Great site!

Have fun with your testing session and enjoy learning about your car!!!

Hi, I figured its about time I introduce myself on here. I have been on here for almost a year reading and learning. I am Justin Nally from Waupun, WI. I bought my first legends car last spring and tried to learn as much about it as I could the past year. I started racing last August at Beaver Dam Raceway and only raced 3 races and nationals so this year will be my first full year. Jim Bucher of VMS Motorsports and Jeff Steenbergen of Ultimate Race Cars have helped me out a TON! I  went to NASCAR tech in Moorseville, NC and worked for a few NASCAR race teams a few years back before movign back to WI.

Hello, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself.
My name is Scott and I live in Dayton Ohio. I'm originally from Pittsburgh Pa. Back in 1986 I ran a dirt street stock before joining the military. After I got out of the military I ran Karts on dirt for a few years and had a blast ! Then life got into the way and I had other responsibilities to spend my money on .... KIDS ! Lol .
Now that the kids are grown and on their own, I have the itch to get back on the dirt tracks.
I think that for me , the best bang for buck would be in a legends car.
So , that's my intro and I am looking forward to getting to know all of you here !

Scott,
Welcome to our little family!

Thank You for your introduction! Do you have a car yet? There are a few threads on buying new vs used, What to look for buying a used car, Open engine vs sealed engine, etc... If you need help finding info on the site, just message me.

First thing to do is read through the rule book. http://www.uslegendcars.com/documents/2017-rulebook-word---final.pdf
Read through the old threads here on the site. There is a wealth of information!
Post questions. Don't worry if they seem silly. We have all been there! A lot of new members as of late. They can all benefit as well. ;)

We have members all over the USA, as well as members from some 8 other countries. We have members that are looking for a different racing venue to pro racers and dealers. The forum is pretty laid back. I hope you enjoy the site!

And Best Of Luck!

Scott,
That sounds like a good plan. Go down to pits and talk to some of the guys. Most are happy to talk about the series, the cars and answer questions. They will likely tell you every car for sale within 500 miles of you. lol!

Do read through the rules though. Get familiar with the specs of the car and what the rules DO and DO NOT allow.

Steve

All,

Hi, I am Rune, road racing in Sweden. We are about 100+ cars up here now since 2013. Legends became very popular and fast growing in Sweden. As a matter of fact whole Europe & Russia too. But only road racing as far as I know. Dirt and ovals are USA, maybe, down under.  You can read about our track`s at reisa.se (Google).

My car is an old dirt track pulled out from Tennessee history vise I 'we heard, but not sure. Does not matter, Rebuilt for asphalt road now. I am one of few still hanging on to my 1200 open. 1300 sealed is the most popular cause they have more momentum on high rpm they speak?? I did never understand that I keep up with the 1300 on the straight for sure. (Maybe an old Hank Scott engine still working just fine?) We are divided into Pro and Masters/Rookies I am riding in the masters/rookie class, 55 years old and smiling from ear to ear every yard from starting up that old Yamma until I either sit in the tire pile/fence ore manage to pass the checker.

Best regards. # 57.se 37 Ford Sedan 1200 For friendship on face just google rune torp Sweden till u find my #57 car pic for more legends talk.

Hello LegendRacer,

My name is David Steele. I have just run my first race at Langley Speedway in Virginia...these cars are a handful.  I used to run a 600+ hp Dirt Late Model at VMS and it was pretty easy to get the pedal down on that wheel, but these Legends cars... twitchy, loose little gremlin for sure.  I know it'll all come with seat time.  I have gained a lot of valuable information by reading hundreds of posts from all the members, thank you.  I hope to contribute and help others also.

Thank You.

Nice.
Hey if you need help/ advice I can have you talk to someone who will definitely give you good advice.
PM me if you want his name. He should be racing at kern pretty regularly

My advice would be listen to one person that runs up front or has run up front. If you try to "grab bag" a set up from different people you will have a car that is screwed up as nothing will work together. Its a package

Keep the car stable for him where it does nothing stupid and the speed will come.

Hi Mike,

As Robert pointed out; Try to find someone who races at the track(s) you plan to run. You will not have so much trial and error in your set up that way.

The car looks great! Love the wrap!

Best of luck to you and your son,

Thank you for the introduction. Welcome to the world of legends cars and the LegendsRacer family!

I assume that you have purchased a used car and are rebuilding it? First things first... Read the rule book. As INEX legends cars are a spec class, it is most important to know what you can and cannot do to the car as you work on rebuilding. Here is a link to the current rule book:
 https://www.inexseries.com/become-a-member/rulebook/

Several questions... Which engine will you be using (Open FJ/XJ 1200, 1250 Sealed or new Sealed FZ09)? As I am assuming you have purchased an older car, Is everything current? Things like front spindles, tires, brakes, shocks... These are a few things that have changed over the years that may need to be replaced to meet current rules. What type of racing will you be doing? Dirt track, pavement or road course? This will help you determine how you will want to set up your car. Are your safety items current? Seat belts, fuel cell, helmet, etc... Don't skimp on safety gear!!! Where will you primarily race? This will be helpful to find members in your area or familiar with the track(s) you will race.

Best of luck to you!

Steve

Welcome to the LegendsRacer family! Thank you for the introduction. I think you are going to enjoy these cars. The Legends and Bandolero folks are a pretty family oriented bunch of people. Read through the old posts and you will get a good idea as to what all is involved and what to look for when purchasing a used Bando or Legends car.

Let me know if I can help with you anything. Post whatever questions you may have. A ton of friendly folks here on the site!

Best of Luck to you in this adventure!

Steve

Hello my name is Steve and I have been interested  in the legend class for a while. All of my racing experience is from karts. Mostly oval both dirt and pavement in Georgia, Florida and Connecticut. I finally made the leap and bought a sedan with a 1250 engine. I live in Colorado and plan to race mostly at Colorado National until I get more experience in the car.

Hello all,

I'm looking to get started in the world of racing. I've been around it my whole life, my grandfather was a driver and crew chief for a modified at Waterford Speedbowl, my dad was a car fabricator as well as crew chief for an X Car at Waterford. I'm looking to get my get wet helping a team in the northeast before driving a car of my own. If anyone has a New Hampshire based team, feel free to reach out.

Thanks!

Hi folks!

My name is Jacob ("Jake") Gray and I'm based out of Raleigh, NC -- Go Pack!

I've been involved with short track racing my whole life but am brand new to Legends...other than racing them on iRacing of course :) Most of my racing experience is driving and working on Limited Late Models. My brother and I have been racing Limiteds/Chargers on and off for about 7 years at Caraway and Orange County Speedway primarily, but I've recently gotten really interested in Legends racing and think I'd like to look into getting a car and trying to do some racing in 2021 - most likely at Wake County and/or Southern National.

I've been reading through all of the forum posts on this site and feel like I've learned a lot already. It's refreshing to see how willing everyone is here to share information and makes me more excited to get involved! Also shout out to Steve for welcoming me to the site already!

Let me know if there are any teams in the greater Raleigh area that might be interested in showing me a car up close and talking shop a bit :)

Cheers,
Jake Gray

Well hello, My name is Blair. I live in Knoxville TN but my car is being looked after by Dennis Harry down at Atlanta Motor Speedway. I am 41 so talking to the most of the other drivers are a quite a bit younger and a heck of a lot faster than me. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it. It was the first time I drove my car and I know I have alot to learn. But I'm hooked.

Hi everyone,

I'm Marcus and live in Turlock CA.  I recently purchased a Legends car from Kris Krabell a friend from my former NHRA Nostalgia Nitro days. I've sold my funny car and now have to learn how to turn corners.

All I know about my new sport is what I've watched on YouTube so am a sponge for information at this point.

Marcus,

I am just up the road in Oakdale and we have been around the Legends cars since 1994. I have parts & pieces of most everything outside the specific Legends proprietary parts which you have to get from your INEX dealer.

The dealer is Mike David of David's Racing Products in Salida, also just up the road. Phil and his two boys live in Turlock as well. We were able to help them in winning the 2020 Legends of the Pacific Championship.

Let use know if we can be any assistance and we can get you dialed in.

Scott here from British Columbia.  Already have a thunder roadster in the garage figured a should buy a Legends too. Ex motorcycle racer so anything bike powered is a bonus. Currently it's a 1937 Chevy coupe with a 2006 Kawasaki ZX 10 with a turbo at 4psi, microsquirt ecu, full aim data logging.I use it for track days up here at Area27 race track. Still working on a road course set up but would love some others input on their set ups. Currently running 300# upfront and 220# rear.
