Title: FJ1200 or XJ1200?
Post by: JGRacing on October 01, 2007, 02:47:41 pm
Is there a performance or reliability advantage with the FJ or XJ unsealed motors?

Any thoughts on the difference between the two engines.  Thanks.

Maybe the question should be, is there a real difference between the FJ and XJ?  It looks like most of the built ones I see on the internet are FJ's, but I cannot find anything on what the differences are besides part number.

John,
I'm not finding anything either. As I am not all that familiar with either engine, could it be just a difference of year of manufacture? Which bike it was installed in (Sport Bike, Street Cruiser)?  Hopefully someone has more info for you.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Steve

It looks like most of the parts fit both motors from what I can tell.

I believe one is older than the other. You should ask a dealer.

The only difference between the Fj and Xj is the head as a very small casting difference on  the outide. The internal parts are all the exact same and there is no performance difference.

Thanks.  Glad to hear that I do not have to worry about looking for a specific motor when I get a car.
