Title: How to change oil
Post by: Bjorklund on April 17, 2014, 04:50:03 pm
Never seend a Legend before. Is there a service manual?
Where do I tap off the oil? How can I be sure to have enough oil in? Where is the oil filter, are there more then one?

Check some of the old threads on oil and oil changes. Amount of oil will depend on oil coolers, remote filters, and other factors that will deal with how much oil is needed,

I have checked them. They doesnt tell where the drain plug is , or how to check if there is enough oil. Or there are more then one filter.

The drain plug is in the bottom of the oil pan.
There is a sight glass in the front that you can see the oil level through to check it.
Depends on what oiling system you have as far as the filter. If you can't see the filter underneath the headers or in front of the clutch cover mounted to the chassis, then chances are you may still have the motorcycle filter set up, which would put the filter on the rear of the engine.
Is this a new engine?
Send pictures to jim@vmsmotorsports.com and I will try to help you out

Where are you located? Maybe someone close to you could show you. Seeing is believing.

Is this standard Legends parts? If so, is there a parts manual I can buy or download to get the parts number of the filters.

Take the filter off and take it to your local parts store. They will be able to tell you what thread pitch it is

I think Jim means your local auto parts store. They should be able to measure the pitch of the threads on your filter.

The part in the first picture looks to be a screen filter .if you take the bolt out that runs through the middle it should split Iin half alowing you to clean any debris from it.

Thanks! I think you are right.

The second picture is an adapter, so I only guess I have one filter then.

Yes, the second picture is the remote filter adapter that is in place of where the original motorcycle filter would have been

I hope this diagram helps you to understand the oil filter/oil cooler plumbing.
