Title: caster
Post by: dan46 on July 17, 2012, 05:08:00 pm
This is my 3rd season racing legends on dirt. I have struggled a lot with setup and have received some bad information. I was running with my caster more positive on the left  about 1 1/2 degrees. I was good going in the turns good in the middle but loose coming out. I talked too many other drivers who all said they were running more positive caster on the right ,So I changed my caster too 3 degree more positive on the left . What a nightmare now I push bad going in and through the center, but I am getting bite coming out which does not matter because I have already lost my momentum. I run a 1/4 mile medium banked dirt track that is different every week as far as traction. My Question is should I be more positive caster on the left or the right and what kind of spread?

what kind of driving style do you have? Are you a slide em sideways guy, or more straight through the turns?

I like driving through the turns . I usually run my cross weight  from 50 to 50.6 .my camber is about 3  on the left and 5.6 on the right
  my springs are :
left              right
200            185

175           150

If you drive more through the turns, I would try a higher caster split.
Before I started experimenting with other set-ups, I had good experience with .5 Left and 5.5 right.
Makes the car turn left by itself, but will make counter-steering a bear

do I want to stay with more positive caster on the right and just increase the split? How much of a increase ?
