Title: Play in the spindle...
Post by: sfreitas20 on October 25, 2011, 11:23:00 am
Anyone found a solution to the issue with play/slop in the spindle?  It seems when I put a new spindle on it is pretty snug, but only takes a few times out and there is considerable play or slop (whatever word you prefer) in the spindle.  Basically is moves around on the kingpin.  It measures a couple degrees on the camber gauge so I am sure it has the potential to affect the handle on the car.  If I tighten the kingpin anymore it makes it really difficult to turn the wheel.  Anyone found a good way to deal with this?  I don't really want to replace spindles every other race.

1.  Call Jeff Jordan at RPM Proformance and get some of his heims, they are kevlar inserts instead of nylon or neoprene.

2.  Get a longer kingpin bolt and tighten the nut til there is no slop, but still allowing the steering to turn freely; then run another nut up on the kingpin bolt and double-nut, or jam, the first nut so it doesn't work loose.  This has always solved the problem of spindle slop for me.
