I was wondering if anyone could help me. I need more power at take off, i can keep up with everyone once i get goin, but they all get me at takeoff, is there anything i can do to help me out of the hole... any help will be appritiated! Thanks
-
First thing that comes to mind is gearing....Usually when you gear for top end speed you lose a bit on the take-off.....
-
Thanks MagicMan, Id tought of that, but even the ones who are geared exactly the same as i am, are still faster on takeoff...

I don't know what gear you are running in , but let's say you run in 4th gear, try starting in third and then shifting. I had the exact same trouble at my track until I figured out that everyone was starting in third and that is why I was getting passed so much.

Brett, This is a Bando Car. No shifting.
Quick and dirty explanation: Going to a larger front sprocket (clutch) increases top speed. Going to a larger rear sprocket (axle) increases acceleration. Try to match your ratio so that you keep the engine in the "fat" part of the powerband curve.

Ooops, sorry about that.

Just got done changing my gears, went with a smaller on the clutch drum, and a little smaller in the rear, plus i put a new clutch on it as well, will let ya know how it works out... thanks for all the advice..John

You also have to take into consideration car and/ or driver weight when comparing using the same gearing as everyone else.

Ok guys, the gear change did the trick, won my heat and feature last night ( my First WIN...LOL) ..... by changing to 13/77 from a 15/86 was a HUGE difference... thanks guys for the advice!!!! John

Great job John!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
I'm glad to hear that the gearing change worked in your favor.
BTW, John runs his Bando on dirt. Short 1/6th - 1/7th mile tracks.

The gear change did the trick, but im still not as fast as what i would like to be, i had to really drive that car last night to keep in front, but it was worth it...
Is there a way to upload pics on here? if so could someone please walk me through it and i will post a few...

John,
We have been having problems loading pics lately. Tom has been working on it today. I hope the problem is fixed.

Driving the car isn't a bad thing. lol! At least your gear change was a positive step in the right direction. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean it will be right for you.
