Title: Master Cylinder
Post by: Winterracing on January 28, 2014, 12:05:59 pm
Hey guys,
I'm trying to find a master cylinder with the reservoir on top of it (no rubber lines needed) can anyone help me locate one of these?

Thanks,
Dan

Are you getting rid of the remote reservoir? If so, why?

Yes i'd like to, i'm tired of having leaky lines and have seen the master cylinders with the reservoir mounted on top.

Dan,

If you use the proper brake hose for the application you will never have another leak from the hose.

Blue Silicone Brake Supply Hose (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Brakes%3ABrakeHose)

Also, something else to consider, it is much more difficult to bleed the brake system as the reservoir is now lower than the brake lines, at least the rear, which eliminates the ability to gravity bleed the brakes.

Dan,

I'm actually going the opposite way from you. When I bought my car it had the older master cylinder with the reservoir on top and I feel the same way as Randy....harder to bleed. Plus, without testing temps, I feel like it would be much hotter in that area vs the top of the firewall.

Can anybody share with me if the standard brake lines from 600 will work with the VW Master?  From looking at the MC that i have, the flares look like it needs to be a euro line with a different flare not a double flare.

This past fall I just installed brand new brake lines from 600 onto my VW master with no problem.  Bled brakes and no leaks.  :)
