General / Re: New Inex rear axle housing issues

Hi Larry!,
One reason that this could happen; Is first, did you get your housing from a reputable dealer, or just buy it from a private party?  Reason I bring this up is because some people advertise their junk as good usable stuff. I will also mention the straightness of the axles. Not that this may be the cause of your problems if your axles are straight; But because some people don't keep track of these things until it has damaged the housing, or whatever part. Then they sell it off as spares or good, usable parts. This happens in all types of racing.

General / New Inex rear axle housing issues

Ordered a new rear axle housing and when I went to put the axles back in it the bearing wouldn't go into the housing, I measured the OD of the axle bearings with a micrometer and both measured 2.865/72mm and set my dial bore gauge to that dimension then checked the housing where the bearing goes, on the left side the bearing bore is out of round plus .0025 to small one way and .001 to small the other way on the right side the bearing bore was round but ID of the housing measured the same as the OD of the bearing. Has anybody run into that issue and if so what was the solution? It was to late in the day to call the Legends dealer where the housing came from so I will try to call tomorrow.

Thanks
Larry

Hi Randy.

Our dealer is still waiting on the shocks as well. I was not aware that one of the choices had already been removed. I would be interested in the outcome of the shock dyno tests.

I agree that there are still a lot of questions. I still have a box full of the old Carrera shocks. (LOL!) The switch to the Bilsteins at least didn't have the price sticker shock! There are plenty of people with racks of the Bilstein shocks as well that have been dyno tested. I don't think that we will ever get away from people having their shocks tested to gain a small advantage. Shocks are more of a fine-tuning device. So, people will still have to be on their game for the initial setup of their cars.

There will certainly be a significant influx of money to USLC/INEX! Increased costs are going to hurt the budget racers, such as myself. There are already people dropping out and selling off due to the higher costs and inability to get tires. I am still not sure where I am going to come up with the extra money to buy new shocks. But I will continue to try to stick it out as long as I can.

Thank You for your input on the situation!

I spoke to our dealer on Friday about them. He said he has a couple hundred on order and they have already removed the #2(?) shock from the initial offerings. He said he is going to run the shock dyno so he can get a feel for what they have to offer over the Bilsteins.

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered before opinions can be formed. I do see it as a double edge sword. We went aware from Carrera shocks back in the day because they were adjustable and people had racks of shocks with dyno sheet attached. The Bilsteins offered a single shock, that unless you wanted to cheat, was the same for everyone.

Now, we are going back to having to have multiple shocks for different tracks. I like the ability to tune, but the change will have a significant influx of money to 600 racing and we will have options that have a higher cost of racing.

What are people's thoughts on the new Afco shocks?
I am curious as to what everyone thinks about this subject.

I saw this posted on another page. Think about it. It makes total sense.
"For all the crying about being too busy, somehow it?s more manageable now that I have a variety of parts to build. It?s kind of like carrying a plumb full bucket of water, where it?s easier if you can carry two buckets with one in each hand. Not sure it makes me twice as efficient, but it?s making me feel twice as effective."
Don't stop your build just because you need, or are waiting for, one part. Keep being productive and keep your project moving forward.

These things are cool! Will save you a lot of headache while doing set up. No more hose clamps or tape.

$15 off each right now. That's right, save $60 a set.
