Title: Dragging or grinding noise from rear end
Post by: Jason Treschl Racing on December 14, 2014, 12:27:59 pm
Trying to get some ideas as to what could cause a dragging or grinding noise from the rear end. Thought it was a brake dragging but I had them turned and there is no noticeable drag there. It is doing it with 2 different rear end gears, and a new rear end housing. I believe the noise is from the gear area, but it's hard to tell for sure because it seems to resonate through the whole housing. Both gears I used were spooled.

drive shaft hitting the drive shaft tunnel??

I think you nailed it. Had to adjust my rear end over to the left, and the noise started after that. Seems like there should be clearance to the drive shaft tunnel supports, but I will bend them away to make sure and confirm results.

Thanks for the help as always!

When you square the rear under these cars (road racing) the drive shaft is close to the tunnel. I just did this and was surprised how close it is.
