Title: Setting up castor and camber

Hello guys I am trying to setup the front end of my car.   I have a bubble gauge for the castor / camber , now you take the dustcover off the hub and place the gauge on there making sure that the cotter pin is not interfering with it,  for camber how do you read and adjust the gauge?  the center allen head  adjustable camber level what do you set that at?

Pull the cotter pin out, camber is read off of the side 2 bubbles (one sides negative the other positive), make sure whatever tire you are checking is square with the rear end (use a wheel base gauge to do this) caster is off of the center vial. To check caster you turn the wheels to the outside 20 degrees and level the gauge on the hub, adjust the center vial to get 0. Now turn the wheel the other way 20 degrees from straight (20 degrees one way then 20 degrees the other) then that is your final caster reading

I've never had to pull a cotter pin...what kind of gauge are you using?

just a longacre with the standard adapter.

Maybe I'm using smaller cotter pins then, never had a clearance issue with the mag adapter

Same here never had the cotter pin get in way. I get the long pins and bend one over and trim . just trim the other off

There are a couple of gauge adapters available for the Longacre camber / caster gauge.  I used to use the magnetic gauge but imperfections in our imperfect Toyota hubs made the magnetic adapter questionable so I got one of the screw-on adapters.  This one DOES require you remove the cotter ping, castle washer, and the nut, and then screw the gauge onto your spindle axle.  It's been much more consistent.  Good luck!
