Title: Turning but no fuel or spark.
Post by: New Bandolero Owner on January 15, 2021, 04:36:18 pm
Hello everyone,

I just picked up this bandolero a few weeks ago and have started to work on it. I got it from an older friend of mine in non-working condition. The first thing I did was pick up a new battery (because the previous one was toast), oil, oil filter, and spark plugs. The wiring was a mess so I started there and after a few hours of zip tying and looking through wiring diagrams, I got it to turn over. After cranking a few times it didn't start. I pulled the spark plugs out and grounded them to see if there was any spark or if the plugs were wet with fuel. None of which happened. I'm next going to clean the carburetor but that won't solve my ignition problem. If anyone could give me some tips or steer me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Removing the kill wire seems like a good place to start. If it were not this problem, how difficult would it be to replace the ignition coils or diode wires?

Aaron,

Getting to the diode without breaking the seal is rough, but can be done. Somewhere in my notes I have a way to do it. The coils, I am not so sure where they are located or if you can get to them without breaking the seals. I'll try my best to find my notes on the diode.

Aaron,

I couldn't find my notes... Got this from one of our friends though. Hopefully this gets you what you need for the diode. Looks like coil replacements will have to go back to USLC. SORRY! So, here goes:
Hard to explain ! But take all bolts out you can and try to loosen up the one with seal it will only move a little, move shroud as much as you can use needle nose  and unplug from one coil and then the other very hard to do but it can be done.

Wish I could find my notes as it has a bit better explanation. I appreciate my friend for giving me the gist of it though! Pretty much what I had in my head about it.
Hope that helps!

Hello,

I have been tinkering with the engine here and there for a while and against all odds, I have got the car started. I think what happened was that the kill switch was stuck in the on position even if you flipped the switch. I have then replaced the switch and it fires up. I think the reason the engine wasn't getting fule was because of a combination of I didn't crank it long enough and the car had just been sitting for so long. ;D Thank you so much for the help.
