Title: What gear??
Post by: MG173 on October 14, 2016, 06:38:57 pm
The used car I bought came with 2.5, 2.92, and 3.58 gears plus whatever is already in the car but that's the problem. Is there any way to check what gear is in it without actually having to take it apart? i'm taking it out for the first time to tucson speedway here in arizona and it calls for a 3.90. If that's not whats in the car what would my next best option be?

Mark the drive shaft and rear tire.I mark the rear tire and driveshaft at the 12 o'clock position. Count the amount of rotations the driveshaft goes around in once full rotation of the tire. If it goes around just short of 4 then you have a 3.90. If 3 and 3/4 then you have a 3.73

I would say 3.58 in 4th gear.
Unless you plan to do some road racing, the 2.50 and the 2.92 won't be of much use to you.
You can likely sell them for a decent price and buy a 3.90 and still have some extra cash in your pocket.
Just be sure you buy a ten bolt gear and not an 8 bolt gear.

That's what I figured, the guy I bought it from mostly did road racing. How do I tell if the gears are welded or spooled so I can gauge what kind of price to sell them for?
