Has anyone used the Brake Man stuff? I won a set of their calipers. The dealer is pushing me to get their whole setup, including the $225 set of front pads. The rear shoes are about the same! I can't bring myself to spend that much on a set of pads. Are they good enough to warrant spending that much on them? I'm thinking of going to Hawk's, any thoughts?
-
I've never used them, only because I've never had a problem with the 30 year old calipers that are on my cars.
Also run dirt,so the worse the brakes are, the better ;D
-
The calipers retail for about $500.oo. I have run EVERY pad and shoe out there including brake man 1,2,3 Hawke, Carbotech, Cobalt, and a couple of others that were pricy. The calipers are nice, we now have our own caliper that is every bit as good and half the cost. Brakes are everything on asphalt. My suggestion to those that are not rolling in cash and want a pad shoe combo that is 90% as good as it gets is to put Carbotech shoes on the rear and PBR black pads on the front. Total price is less than $175.00 and i promise you they will be as good as you fine. USLC dealers sell these and I promise as the ginny pig that has spent thousands on brake system its very good. There are other pads out there in the $175.00 range that are a tick better, but its just not worth it, they are not brakeman.

There are many companies that offer good brake pads with the compound to do want you want to do. I sell Porterfield brakes pads that I tested for many years and offer the compounds that I found worked the best.
I also sell the caliper rebuild kits and replacement parts so that you can rebuild your own and save yourself money in the process.
Seem like a lot of money for calipers, pads & shoes...

Speaking of rebuilding calipers, do you have any tips for getting that metal ring that holds the dust boot in?

Personally I do not run the dust boot or the snapring, but you should be able to just walk it into the groove provided; that is how I do it.

Thanks guys. $225 just seems a bit high for a set of pads.
-
Buy the PBR bads from your dealer, approx $85.00, they are as good as any.
-
Dennis, I tried carbotechs on the front of my car and experienced bad lock up when on the brakes. Wondering if you had similar issue. I hear carbotech is what most people run around here in NC. I am running bias on LF and 2 1/8 calipers, however when trying carbotech locks up both fronts. I have tried many pads but can only run the cheap beckanrely sold on the parts truck.
-
This is typical of the carbotech gold pads in my opinion. USLC sells a black pad, PBR its will solve all of your issues. The carbotech is so agressive I cant run it. The PBR is cheaper and a better pad, try it you will like it.
-
Its getting about time for me to get new front pads, just put new brembo rotors on so those are all set, but whats a good general pad to run in everyones opinion that work well with the brembo rotor?
Dan

PBR- sold by USLC, the price is right and they are great pads.
-
Dan, I ran BrakeMan calipers and pads , with the brembo rotors for the first time last weekend. The calipers are a very nice piece. However, the pads ($225) work too well. I drove into the corner like I am used to and locked the fronts up every time. I dialed more rear brake in to try and compensate as well as tried not to use so much pedal. It got better as the night progressed and I did set fast time, but I am still not a big fan. I am hoping they will harden up a little bit and not be quite so aggressive. I am planning on getting a set of the PBR's to try on my other car. I wouldnt mind trying a set of Carbo Tech's....
-
Carbo tech are alot like brake man 3 pads, very aggressive with alot of brake dust. I totally agree the brake man calipers are a nice piece, but you dont need to spend that kind of money for a good caliper. I have had alot of problems with he 2.25" new calipers and would not recomend them.
-
Just me, or does nobody run in their brake pads anymore?
Maybe I missed that part.
The brake pads sound like they may be too aggressive.
Read some of the old threads on brake pads. May give you ideas.

Thats funny I did notice alot of brake dust with the carbotechs also.
Dennis do you know how the PBR compare to the Beckarnely that USLC sells?
-
I believe it is the same pad.
-
Due to many inquiries in the last couple of weeks, I am looking into becoming a dealer of The Brake Man products.
I guess it's the way to go on tar, or so I'm told, I wouldn't have the faintest idea.
If anyone is interested, send me a PM, call me, or email me, as I need to get an initial order together to buy in.
-
Is this PRB pad the one on the blue plate which you can see in the online catolouge for around $20? i'm new to legends and the brakes is something im looking to improve on! any info would be much appreicated.
Thanks
-
No the PBR pad is around $79.00. In the Legend car world this is an inexspensive pad that will work as good as a $170.00 pad.
-
cool, thanks for the info, the ones on there now are mintex pads in the front but im sure these are standard road going pads from over here.
-
Hey Dennis, I called Uslegendcars looking for the PBR Black pads and they didn't know what I was asking for. They said they had a semi-mettalic pad that was Black and the price was $79.99 + tax. Is this the same pad??? Thanks Bob
-
The box reads 088-0803M they are XBG metal master these have changes names over the years. PBR, XBG, Metal master, Repco. If you have a problem please call me

Thanks Dennis ! I called today and talked to Rob in parts and he was willing to check their stock. He found them using the part # you gave me. They are now called Axxis (spelling?), he said they don't sell alot of them, but they still have them. The guy I talked to yesterday wasn't into looking at boxes to help himself make a sale ???.
-
I may have a couple sets of those.
I'll check this weekend for you
-

-
found another place that has them for 36.00
great mark-up
-
Rob,
Where did you find them for $36?
Thanks! ;D
-
Summit Racing has them for $35.95!
-
Thanks Dan! ;D
-
Ive got 2 sets available.
USLC $79.95/set plus shipping
VMS $40.00/set including shipping
-
Let me know how those pads work out from Summit. A couple years ago the pads were available on the open market then the went away. USLC was the only place I could find them, believe me I looked! Make sure they have no divide in the middle, also make sure you DO NOT get the organic pads, usually an 087 number. Let me know please!
-
Dennis what is wrong with organic pads? Wouldn't they be softer ?
-
They WILL not work, I put a set on by mistake and 10 laps in they were gone. You could try them, they were worthless for me. Please let me know, thanks.
-
Thanks Dennis. I did put a set on but we run on a track that you use very little brakes, SO I was thinking (and this where I get in trouble most times) that a soft pad to help. I do have some semi Matalic pads and might just have to put them on but for now I'm going to give them a try. Thanks again for the heads up.

I now have 14 sets of these in stock.
They are not organic, and they do not have the divide in the middle.

Are they new Brake man calipers you just bought? If not, they do recommend new seals every year as a maintenance item
-
Call the dealer you bought them from, they should be able to do something for you through Brake man
-
Gimp I agree, the caliper is not the problem, it sounds like a master problem and or maybe a pad is not staying in place. When you bleed and bleed and bleed and never get brake, it is usually because a pad is out of the bracket. happens all the time! I do my own calipers and have sold plenty, your issue is not a caliper issue.
-
You really should talk to your dealer. You spent alot of money with them, they should be able to do something for you
-
Vince,
The folks here on the forum are trying to give you thoughts, ideas and experience. Take it for what you will.
Grease around the threads of brake lines or any other line that could leak, be it air or anything else, is not a cure all.
You might want to actually go back and look things over. What's it going to hurt?
Be Polite Folks.
Steve

I really think you may have had a pad out, when you replaced the caliper it was put back in place.
-
What Dennis is talking about happens a lot. It happened to me this year and that wasn't the first time. I looked and knew better but it still bit me. Check the pads really close. Just saying.
-
I talked to Cory at Brake Man today for you Vince.
Feel free to contact him at any time. I will PM his contact info to you
-
Not a problem, let me know if you need any more info / assistance
