Drivetrain & Gearing / Gearing with MT09
« Last post by Aus1002Legendracer on Today at 08:16:17 am »
We recently changed out our 1250 with the new MT. With the 1250 on a 3/8 dirt oval we ran a 3.58 gear. On a 1/4 mile oval we ran a 3.73 gear. My question is with the new MT can we run the same gear or do we need different ones. Thanks for any help

It's hard to tell what you might get when buying used. I've seen a lot of issues when buying driveshafts. I purchased a new one this year for that reason. Thanks for the update.

Tracked it down as being for a modlite with a winters QC rear end.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I picked up a proper flange from a white driveshaft with a joint and they are considerably bigger. Looks like I'm back to searching for the correct shaft or mak just build from scratch since it's going to be a street legal car. I will the some pictures when I get home.

There are two types of drive shafts that are legal. The original was white in color and has internal retainer-clips on the universal joints. The flanges that bolt to the front and rear were thinner. This shaft is widely used but the u-joint are NOT rated for the RPM's of a legend Car. The second and current shaft has 1200 series u-joint and is rated closer to the RPM's of a Legend Car. The newer gray shaft has external clips. The white shaft will weigh about 2-2.5 lbs less and should be in the 14lb range. The gray shaft closer to 16 to 16.5 range. Both are currently legal and have the same outer tube diameter.

If the bolt pattern is not the same, then it is likely you have the wrong ends on it.

A while back I picked up  a driveshaft and being new to legends I had figured they were all the same. This one looks like the proper shaft but the ends seem too small and the flange bolt circle is too small.and not square.

The ujoints don't have external clips

Could this be from a 8 bolt from a dwarf or modlite?

Check with the track or another racer. They are usually very willing to help out. Another option may be to go to some SCCA Autocross events.

General / How to build experience?
« Last post by Rainman on March 23, 2024, 07:56:49 am »
Please forgive the dumb new guy question, but: how do you build experience driving a legend car before race events?

I?m working on getting into the sport.  New Hampshire Motor Speedway is my closest track but I can?t seem to find anything about track days or opportunities to drive other than their two race weekends.  Anyone know anything about getting time on tracks in the region?  I?m primarily interested in road course.  Thanks in advance.

Another issue is that USLCI has done away with some of the body styles. So new parts are not available.
