when doing a gear change last week I found the carrier that came on the car had one longer stud then the new carrier, not a big deal but you might want to get a shorter stud just in case.

Hi Al,
From what I have read, this was indicative of a 10 bolt Toyota rear end housing. Have found that this is not always true.

You can plug it with silicone, it not a big deal.

Bringing up an old subject. Anyone know where I can get one of the long studs. The carrier that came on the car uses the short stud, but the carrier I am switching uses the long stud. If I just seal it with gasket seal, do I just keep the short stud on and only have 9 nuts holding it in the housing?
-
Im just a 9 nutter myself...
That sounded odd... ::)
-
So many jokes but probably none I can say on this board. :D
-
I'll let that one alone.

Nie are fine, just make sure you run a gasket to help it from leaking, you can replace the short stud with a longer on but it is not a big deal.

nine nuts are fine, I run a gasket on the housing, siliconed. And no silicone on the center section / gear and I run the gasket for most of the year with no problems. I also have to change the gear every week for 3 diff tracks...
-
Are you using the stock auto parts store gasket, or some kind of reuseable gasket?
-
Paper from 600...The key is to just silicone the one side, the housing. I have not had it leak in 2 years. If I change the gear I look at it and change if needed. I think I have used 2 or 3 gaskets in 2 years and change the gear every weeek..
-
I will give that a try. I just used silcone the last time which works great, but is a mess to scrape off during gear changes.
-
I change gears a lot so I don't use anything. Just metal to metal and it doesn't leak but you do have to fill that long bolt hole though.

I still cannot read this thread without laughing. :)

Would that be some kind of Navy joke?
:) :D ;D
