Title: Clutch Issues
Post by: Racinjj on May 14, 2008, 08:42:48 pm
I just got my new (used) car today and everything is great on it except the clutch doesnt work.  Anyone have any idea as to why the clutch wouldnt work after sitting all winter.  The pedal feels good and has fluid.
Thanks

I warmed it up good and the clutch is working good.

Glad it's working now, might be a good time to change the oil. You want an oil that is  compatable with the wet clutch sytem in these cars. The oil bottle  should have the intitals JASO on it, we're using Lucas Synthetic Motorcycle oil.

One reason for the clutch not working could be that it sat all winter.  The clutch plates need fluid on them, and after sitting all winter the clutch plates may have been dry.  After warming up the engine for a bit, it usually starts working again.

Does the clutch need oil in it for sure for the clutch to operate? Just trying to clarify so I know what my clutch issue is.

Yes it does. The clutch operates in the engine oil.
You did not state what your clutch issue is. Perhaps you would share the problem.

I had that same issue when I bought mine last year had to start it in first gear and just cycle the clutch and worked fine afterwards
