Its not that bad on your car as long as you keep up with the maintanance.  You can really tell the car doesnt like it when you start it up though.  After seeing what oils look like at work at -20 I always make sure to put synthetic oil in the winter season.  Not only does it add protection to your metal parts it helps your starter turn the motor over easier.  I dont mind the cold but cant stand the heat, this sub zero stuff is for Canadians though, eh!

Racecar spelled backwards is racecar. Racecar upside down is expensive.

Don't forget the gas line drier (Heet)!
Had to rescue my wife a couple weeks back when her fuel line froze.  :D

Give me the heat anyday over the bitter cold.  We also get our share of excessive heat in the summer too.  A couple of years ago at our big 2 day Governor's Stock Car Classic weekend in August, we were racing in 112 degree heat with high humidity.  To be out racing in that kind of heat makes you figure that the chickens are smarter than we are :) .

Definitely could feel that the brakes and steering in my truck were very sluggish yesterday, but didn't have any problem starting it up after work when it was about -20.   Of course there were lots of people who's cars needed jumper cables yesterday morning - especially if they don't have a block heater plugged in.

Funny...my 2009 Camry with 7,000 miles on it had a hard time starting, but my 1997 Tahoe with 183,000 miles fired right up.  Now I have to go drive around and take pictures of houses for a bank to foreclose on...glad I have a remote start...it'll be nice and toasty when I get in!

Not sure if anyone remembers, but back in the late 90's when Gateway International had their first Busch series race, it was so hot during the week that the track started melting.  It buckled in a few places and was just coming apart throughout the extremely long race.  I raced that night on a local dirt track and thought I was going to pass out after just hot laps.  Nothing worse than being in some of these cars with exhaust that routes around the driver compartment when its that hot.  Glad that the legends cars will not be like some of the other toaster ovens that I have driven.  Now if we can just all make it through the brief ice age that we are having at the moment.

Did they have the legends ice racing this year up in Alaska like they have in the past?  600 Racing had some pics and an article on their website last year.

Steve...I'd stay away from the Heet. Back in my previous life as a service manager we had a couple times per year that cars were towed in for a no start and we found that on certain models...can't remember which ones, sorry...as an additional fuel filter, the manufacturer had installed a nylon type of sock around the fuel pick-up, which would essentially melt with repeated use of Heet. Of course that was over 5 years ago, so maybe things have changed. I still don't use anything though, course Im not in Montana either!

Jim,
Been using the Heet for 35 years and have never had a problem.
My wife forgot to put it in for 2 weeks during our really cold spell around Christmas, and I had to rescue her.
I don't even drive!  :o

John,
I haven't heard anything about the ice races this year. Nobody wanted to loan me their car, or I would have found a way to do it last year,  :D

Busch Race: I do remember watching that, just don't remember exactly what year it was. Could be because I was drinking back then; OR: Could just mean I getting old!

All I know was those nylon socks were all melted and globbed together, and Chrysler said it was from using gas line anti-freeze.

Steve...on a personal note........damn you're old!!!!!  You were using heet before I was born!  ;D

Here's an exerpt from the Heet MSDS:

Incompatibilities with Other Materials:
Strong oxidizing agents, aluminum, zinc, or metals that displace
hydrogen, rubber
and rubber based coatings
, chromic anhydride, lead perchlorate and
perchloric acids.

Its basically just methanol...actually a mix of 99% methanol and 1% of their "proprietary additive"

It's a staple up here in Montana.
Along with antifreeze, synthetic oil and head bolt heaters.
 :D

By the way..............
Quit puttin' the Heet on your socks.

You shouldn't have to run HEET if you are using gas that has ethenol in it.

Hey Joe!!!!
Hope your staying warm! Looks like 50*+ may be heading your way. It's really nice this morning! 40 above already, and no wind!!!
The ethenol blend doesn't seem to be as popular here as in other parts of the country.
