what do the different gears do to put out less rpm's.

Chance,
 Pm Admin or Fastmantom. They are into the go kart and lawn mower racing stuff.  Also, check out Bobs4cycle. Tom C. (Admin) also has a lawn mower racing site. Sorry! Don't remember what it is. I lost a lot of web sites when I moved.
 The final gear ratio will be a combination of the front gear (gear on the engine) and the rear end gear (gear on the rear axle).
I'm thinking that you will want to keep the RPMs up so that you lose less speed in the corners, but still have sufficient get up and go down the straights.
Let them know what gears you are running now, tire size, size of track, etc... I am sure they can put you on the right track.

Yes i got the right sproket in now the revlimiter does not cut out thank you.
