Compression gauge adapter
« on: June 13, 2008, 12:47:37 pm »
Anyone know where I can buy an adapter for a compression gauge to fit the sparkplug hole on these engines.  Mine has a couple of adapters, but not one that will fit (of course).  Hate to spend the money on a new kit if I can just get the adapter.

John,
Have you tried Sears or Napa?

Nobody sells them that I found...I tried Advance auto parts, Auto zone, Sears, Napa, and Snap-on. Ended up just buying a new tester with a bunch of adaptors (including the right one) off eBay for $60. I know they have them at Northern Tool, they were out of stock at the one here though, and werent expecting any for a couple weeks. They do have a website you can order through if theres no store by you. Would also check Harbor Freight.

Found one on Actron's website (part number 0180-000-0894).  Hate paying $6 on an $8 item, but better than buying a whole kit.

Make one from an old spark plug. Drill it out and weld it to one of the other adapters.

The adapter you seek is available from any MAC or Snap-on dealer, though they may have to order it.I would splurge and buy one rather than trying to make one, several years back we made one and it didnt read the same as the MAC adapter, about 5 lbs. lower if I remember correctly. The adapter should be less than $15 or so, a small price to have peace of mind and know that you are legal.
