broke a camshaft on my 1200 in practice this weekend, I was told that just put a new one on and carry that the bottom end and head should be fine?new too legends wondering if thats all I need too do

I guess that would depend on if you bent valves or if there is any other damage to the engine. I am thinking that you will need to pull the heads to find out.
But I will leave that question to the engine guru's.

Which cam broke?

Pull the valve cover, you can then see if any of the valve buckets are still depressed which indicates bent valves.

You could also do a leak down test on the two cylinders that have the broken cam.
