Another seat mounting question
« on: June 02, 2016, 06:16:08 pm »
I found a lot of great info here about seat mounting, but I have one burning question.

I have about a 2" gap between the back firewall and the back of my seat. The rules say to use a "flat piece of steel or aluminum behind the seat (don’t just use bolts in tubing)".

That being said, how should I take up this space? Do I need to find a 1"x2" piece of flat stock in order to mount this thing? Seems excessive. Any idea what the intention is here?

I have seen people use roll bar clamps and bolt the flat piece to these or weld in spacers and a flat piece of steel. I don't like just drilling holes in the roll cage without the hole being sleeved with a piece of tubing to help reinforce the breach in the roll bar tubing. The idea behind this piece of flat stock behind the seat is to take up that space between the seat and make the seat mount more ridged. You don't want your seat flexing and bending should you get in an accident.

My .02 for what it's worth.
