seat angle (layback)
« on: November 12, 2015, 01:16:58 pm »
Hey guys,

I'm in the market for a containment seat, preferably a Lajoie. Im 6ft 2inches 220 pounds. What do you tall racers run for a seat angle (layback)? I think the seat I have now is a 20 degree? Anyway, I am having very little headroom. Thanks in advance,

Eric

Eric,  I use a 10° layback seat as it gives me ample room inside of car as far as headroom and ease of operation.  However, I am 5'10" and a 10° layback seat may not  your best option for a 6'2" person.  Maybe VMS motorsports can chime in on this as he is closer to your size.

I'm in the market for a new seat, as the one that I had was damaged in the last wreck of the season. It will no doubt be a Kirkey as that is what I sell. As far as layback, it's all a matter of personal preference and driver comfort. I have run a 10 degree for the last 8 years being 6'1" 240lbs

What gives you more headroom a 10 or a 20?

The reason I ask, my Kirkey seat, gives me about an inch between the top of my helmet to the roll bar. Ive tried every which way of mounting the seat sliding the bottom forward and whatnot. When I do that it gives me more headroom but makes it more difficult to get in and out of the car.

Maybe going to a full containment seat the bottom sides wont be as high? Ive got the seat flush with the back of the car.

On paper, a 20 degree would give you more headroom, but would take away legroom in these little cars

Thanks Jim! Just out of curiosity, what model Kirkey do you run?
