Tip Over Valve
« on: April 01, 2014, 10:55:17 am »
Got this in my email this morning. Something to think about while your getting your car back together.

Steve

"Service Bulletin"

When was the last time you had the fuel safe out of your car with some fuel in it and tipped it over to see if the vent valve worked. Fyi, yesterday when I rolled my race car I found out the hard way. Here are videos from my in car cameras. As I was on my roof the entire roof filled full of gas (Notice the constant stream of gas), my suit was saturated with fuel and the gas just kept coming. .. Please, as a favor to me check your roll over valves.. Be safe, be kind, be good humans... love you... Me..

Thanks for posting this Steve, scary.

I feel a little dumb asking this, where is this valve? Is it replaceable without replacing the tank?

It's the valve on the top of the fuel cell. Yes; Replaceble without having to replce the fuel cell.
Basically, just remove your fuel cell and tip it upside down(with a little fuel in it) to make sure it is working correctly.

Another method to see if it's working properly.
Thanks for pointing out that it is not the preferred method.

But if you do that..... the oil will run out the crankcase breather.  I know, I've seen it laying upside down.

Seriously; This is an overlooked part of general maintenance. I thought that it was a good issue to bring up while most of us still have our cars apart.

I dont have any oil in the car right now due to an engine swap. I might just flip the car over instead.  ;D

Seriously though, this valve is part of the pickup that bolts to the tank?

It is a separate valve on the top of the fuel cell

Probably. You can buy one from Speedway Motors, Day Motorsports or other race shops for around $25.00.
