Oil level lamp check.
« on: March 25, 2014, 07:34:47 am »
Hey guys,

Ive swapped the motor in my car a few times and yet Ive never seen the red oil level lamp come on. From what people tell me, the thing will come on sometimes during racing, in a turn when the oil is moving around. Is there a quick test for this or should I just turn on the ignition without any oil in it?

Thanks,

Eric

Next time you are changing your oil, when it is drained, turn on your ignition switch. The bulb should be lit.

Sometimes if it is low enough you car jack up the left side of the car (sensor on left and oil goes right) and it will light.

You should be able to see the oil in the sight glass after it settles regardless of whether the bulb works or not.

Thanks Chad. I check the window all the time.

Ill double check the wiring but I think its ok. Is it more common for the bulb to fail vrs's the sensor? The sensor has some sort of float in it? Are the bulb and sensor an INEX part or a Yahmaha part?

Not sure about the sensor, as I've never seen an engine apart.

The bulb can be anything you can find. I found ones at advanced auto parts ($10) that have the push on blade connection instead on the screw on.

If you have oil in the window and check it regularly, just wait till you drain your oil to check. I raced my first year with never seeing the light come on in the corners. But some will tell you your not drving hard enough.

just disconnect the lead at the engine, and touch it to ground. If the light comes on, you know the lamp works.

It would appear I have a dead lamp. Where do you get them?
