Batteries that sit for long periods of time don't tend to do well. Maintenance chargers help. Deep cycle batteries last longer. Optima, and some of the other gell cell batteries seem to fair well, but are pricey. Some of the folks on the site are still using the original battery that came with their car. Kind of a toss up. I am very happy with my Optima battery in my street car. Have not had a problem with it, even in 50 below weather.

Not much help there... Perhaps someone might have some other info for you.

-26 series/size battery.
I have the same Walmart battery my first car came with in 2007, run on dirt, and have flipped the car multiple times.
That being said, I think that is a rarity.
I just put an Optima in my truck, and will be putting one in the race car before the season just because.

Becareful of the post positioning of the battery. Run a top post and try to find a battery with the post toward the center. The USLC battery has this although I do not think they are a high quality battery. There has to be a battery of this grouping with the post toward the center, if anyone has one or a part number it may help alot of people. Do not run a side post battery.

Ya, we used to too until they made us change one at a big event. Stupid? Maybe, but it is what it is!

Keep in mind whatever battery you choose to purchase that is within INEX rules as stated  under section 6. Battery: Only a lead acid or gel cel battery(minimum 25 lbs.) may be used.

Good luck! :)
