setting castor tips

When setting the castor, i use a longacre digital castor camber gauge, it says turn the wheel 15 degrees one way, if i cant afford turn plates is there any tips on knowing how far to turn the wheel???

If you are using a bubble gauge the back edge is usually cut at the suggested angle, turn the wheel until that angle is parallel with your car. This is not 100% accurate but you will be close. They also make slip plates with degrees marked on them. Harbor freight used to have some steel turn plates that guys liked for atleast half the price of the aluminum plates.

Knox can you explain a little more about the back edge of the bubble gauge its just not clicking to me lol

On many bubble gauges the two corners of the gauge are cut at angles, these angles match the same angle as they suggest you turn the wheel.  If you attach the gauge these would be the two corners of the frame of the gauge that are at the end of the tool. When you rotate the wheel the gauge rotates with it. You will be able to visually line the angle of the gauge up with car by eye until it is parallel. I can not load photos on here as it would be so much easier, lol.

Note in above picture that the end is not flat all the way across, the edges are beveled 20 degrees

This brand pictured bevels the inner edges, some are the outer corners, I think it makes it a little easier. Thanks for putting the photo up!

Actually, the picture shown does have the outer edges beveled at 20 degrees
