Just checked compression
« on: November 18, 2012, 03:10:25 pm »
I just checked the compression on my engine and had 110 psi on all the cylinders, did a running compression test and found 120psi,I have a race next week, will it be ok to run? I don't have any history on the engine but it seams to run good, this is the last race of the season for me so a rebuild will come shortly after. Is there anything I can do to raise the compression.?

Make sure when you check it your holding the throttle wide open, for one more race i'd run it, you can check your valves to see if they need to be adjusted

Just learned not to buy a cheap compression tester, checked again with another gauge and came up with 150psi across the board

Just a note as I also just went through this. If the engine has sat for a long period of time start it up and let it run for a minute, not enough to get hot but just enough to get the oil up into the cylinders. That makes a big difference, made my compression numbers jump a good 30-40psi.

Aside from that check the valves, might be a good time for an adjustment.
