The following will replace rule #17. DRIVESHAFT, Page #45 in the Legend Cars section of the 2012 INEX Rulebook as of 7/25/12.

17. Lightening the driveshaft in any way is illegal. Driveshaft must be painted white or light gray.

Driveshaft Retainers (chassis) – INEX approved driveshaft retainer straps are permitted. A maximum of three additional retainers (1/4” thickness X 3/4" width) are permitted. Requests for additional retainers for the driveshaft must be approved in writing by INEX.

Jim,

That means you cannot run those bent 10# driveshafts in your car... ;D

Painting the driveshaft white has always been the norm in all the racing I've ever done. Makes sense from a night racing standpoint.

Mark,
Yep. That means Jim cannot run those bent driveshafts.
(Did I say that?)  ;D

Sorry Jim! Just a little fun at your expense.

How would you tell if you have a illegal driveshaft.....only by weighing it?   or is there a number on it somewhere?

Yes weight, and it has to be steel tubed. The original shaft had smaller  flanges, the u-joint clips were on the inside, (these were the white shafts) and weighed about 14lbs., the current or gray shafts has larger, thicker flanges and the clips are on the outside.(Weight around 17lbs.)

yes they are. You can have one built, be sure to keep up on the u-joints, the yokes are not nearly as strong. When they fail its bad. We run them in alot of cars.
