Two tricks
« on: November 25, 2007, 05:37:06 pm »
I was having some trouble keeping the top brake caliper shim in place.  It would fall down and bind the caliper in the bracket.  My goal was to keep the caliper floating free so I ran some safety wire through the little holes in the shims (same holes that the little clips use) then back around the spring clip and then around the bracket.  It only takes a minute and it has worked for me all year without fail.

This is the second trick and it keeps your spring caps seated properly on the front shocks when you jack up the car.
Everyone uses zip ties to hold the caps to the springs.  I run a third zip tie through each of the two cap zip ties and around the shock shaft end on slotted side of the cap.  That keeps it from moving down the slot.  Then I run a forth zip tie around the third zip tie and up and over the shock bolt spacer.  This keeps the lock nut on the shock end properly nested in its countersunk hole.
