I am having problems figuring this out. While racing in the feature on the last lap the car suddenly just revved up with no drive to the rear tires, Nothing at all. When I put the car in gear it would roll like in neutral. When I got home, keep in mind nothing is visually broken, I checked the rear axles and they are still locked together. So I put the car in gear and low and behold it actually goes in, So I drove it around the yard but you cant put any load on it or else it just revs up but the tires don't spin. Motor is a 1250 sealed with 13 races. So the car does technically run and drive. What are the steps that need to be taken to figure this thing out before the next race. Thank you for any help you can give.  ???

If you have checked everything else (rear axle splines, etc.), drain your oil and see how burnt it smells.
What are you running for oil?

I drained the oil and it was black and smelled something fierce. I pulled the clutch cover off to find all this black sooty stuff in the basket and some of the discs have pretty much no friction material. So the real question is, Do I just need to put new friction plates in or is there like a whole kit cause there is a weird wire clip that holds the last clutch plate in. Any topics on the how to properly install a new clutch

Brad,

The reason Jim asked you what oil you are running is because it is very important to run a motorcycle type oil capatible with for a wet clutch application such as for the motorcycle engine we all run.  Improper oil could lead to premature clutch failure.

Good luck!  :)

I was using AMSOIL 10w40 motorcycle oil. I am switching to 20w50. I am told it takes the heat of these motors a little better
