Engine temps and cooling
« on: January 03, 2012, 05:06:56 pm »
Hi all, hope everyone had a good Christmas break, it's that time of year  when I pull my legend apart n look for things to improve, I'm looking at cooling at the moment and would like to know if a dual pass oil cooler is the best to run? I'm not sure what my car has at the moment as it was on there when I brought it and there are no markings on it, the pipes go on opposite ends one top and one bottom if that helps any, I have a fan on the back which I only use after races and my temp gauge reads around 260 to 280 at the end of a race. I was also looking at the heat shield deflector hsr make, does it work? Does any one here sell it? Do any of you guys have a fan running through the races?

I believe you have a dual pass cooler right now.
I assume by the temps that you are running asphalt, so I will defer the rest of the questions to those that also run tar.

Do you run higher temps on dirt?

I've never run asphalt, but from the numbers I've seen, we do run cooler on dirt. My cars are low 200's with a Setrab 920 dual pass cooler and no fans with Amsoil

I'm new to this and  have been reading some about oiling and cooling. Let place my setup see where it falls. The top oiler is connected to  top of a small setrap cooler and then hose from the bottom of the motor. A secondunderneath the first is connected the ports come from the side of   the motor. The filter is in the oem position. Is this ok????

Thanks,

Robert

I 'm not smart enough to figure out how to attach a picture. Keeps telling me my file is too large. I don't know how to change it. But I think I can see why you're in the dark about what I was describing, I'll try again. The top oiler comes from the cam area and connects to a small setrap cooler. A hose then goes from the other end of the cooler to the bottom of the engine where the top oiler normally connects. I'm guessing it puts cooler oil to the top end. The second cooler is connected to the ports on the bottom of the engine.

Thanks,
Robert

Haven't seen one like that, but it shouldn't hurt anything
