new1250 engine cranks and pops but wont start

I bought a used 1250 sealed engine and just got it in and tried to start it.....it pops out the exhaust (loud) but won't start. Sounds like timing is way off. I have a blue plate on it and tried moving it both ways but doesnt do anything different?? need help

Are you sure you have the coils hook-up correct? I would try changing them around first. It is easy and fast. Just a starting point.

they should be correct i never undid any wiring of coils or ignition I just unbolted coils from the carbs and swung them out of the way.

I believe you have the coils firing the cylinders out of order. One coil should fire plugs 1 and 4, the other 2 and 3.  Take the plug wires that feed 1 and 4 and put them to 2 and 3. Take the wires that went to 2 and 3 and place them on 1 and 3. On the old black box system you could just reverse the pickup wires and bam it would do the trick, I am not sure if you can do the same with the blue plate.

THANKS to the both of you, I fixed the problem in five minutes...thanks. I still dont know why same blue plate same coils and same ignition....why are the coils are reversed, they are even marked on coils where wires go, so I didn't just forget....

OH WELL PROBLEM SOLVED
