Steering Rack ... Rebuild?
« on: July 25, 2011, 06:50:56 pm »
After my wreck this weekend, my steering rack has a good amount of play in it. Is there a rebuild kit for these or do I have to buy a new rack?

Thanks,
Grant

Can't respond as far as rebuild kits go, but me and DJ both sent ours to CMG Motorsports in the winter and got them rebuilt. I'll just say ball park would be around $100, at least that's right around what ours were. Just as good if not better than new..plus saves you $200 unless you'd want to have a backup as well if you'd buy a new one.

To add in my steering rack and Ethan's both were the 'old style' with the grease fitting on top. CMG Motorsports sent it back to us with the adjuster on top. So ours are now adjustable.

I'm guessing you can probably get them from other places but i've seen them on this site before so remembered they sell them (North East Legends) - http://02e8063.netsolstores.com/steeringrackbootcover.aspx

Sorry to bring up an older thread but this past weekend I realized the adjusting screw is missing on the top on my steering rack (now I just put tape over it to keep dirt out).  I just bought this rack brand new at the begining of the season.
There is a lot of play in the steering and I was wondering if that was why and ....
Where I could get another screw, cap thingy.

Worst case I figure I will send CMG this one and my old version steering rack at the end of the season and have them both gone through.

Check your old rack before sending it out.
I have had people send me theirs to look at thinking it needed to be rebuilt, and it was only the set screw  that was loose.
Will need to pull the the boots off, but it's a 5 minute fix.
Worth looking at.

Can't offer any insight into the new one, sorry
