Ok i will probably get my self in trouble . I have heard that in different altitudes the the cam timing can be played with and that effects the pumping compression. In other words a motor that pumps 180 at lower altitudes will pump lower at higher altitudes. So if the motor is built to pump 180(illegal 1200 by the Inex rule book), and is shipped to a higher altitude area, it will pump lower but have good power. Hopefully a motor guy will help with this one way or another.

Oh I see where Gimp, at the end of the original post.  the 1200 IS NOT JUNK thats for sure. I do believe the 1250 does have the overall advantage by design and rules put in in place by USLC. Pretty simple.

Where's your track?
Why did so many brand new 1250's blow at the Million last year?
At my track, which is obviously inferior because it is dirt, there have been multiple 1250 issues, with engines being sent back repeatedly. Multiple 1200 issues also, but thay have all come from the same builder (not me).

Just buy what you want to buy. If having a few 1250's in your trailer makes you more comfortable, then do it.
If you prefer to work on your own stuff, go with the 1200.

Neither is junk, otherwise they both wouldnt be out there winning races.

In my limited experience with legends it seems getting the power to the ground is more of an issue then the actual engine. It may only be because I have high speed turns at my track. But all of us worry more about grip then power. Just throwing that out there.

I have both a 1200 and a sealed motor. as long as you max out your compression on the 1200 at 165. there isnt a big difference on dirt between the 1200 or the sealed. on asphalt im sure there is a difference, but with dirt your tires are spinning more.  im not real happy with 600 or my sealed motor right now. i just had it rebuilt over the winter at 600 and it lasted 7 races and it broke a piston. i shipped it to 600 the 1st of july and they said they would get it done for me fast as possible. its the 28th of july now and i havent heard a peep out of them. i know a motor is a motor, but if there going to make you send your motor to them to be sealed then they should last longer then 7 races or at least cover shipping cost or maybe some labor. just my opinion. it will be interesting to see my bill when i get my motor back whenever that might be.
