Whoever told you that is smoking back alley grade crack.
I've got them in both my cars, wont touch a sealed motor unless it's mandated, and then I'd probably get out of racing instead of buying one

JUNK???? no way bro, they are not junk. I have been into these motors and when I started playing with these things I was absolutely shocked at what these things will take for punishment while using stock yamaha stuff inside.
I came from a stock car background running chevy stuff, we would always try to use aftermarket whenever possible because stock chevy stuff was junk (in stock form). These things are just not like chevys, they are good. I could tell you short storys but not here, I am impressed with them though.
Just my 2 cents.

I run one,  I run up front but the guys who are winning every week run the 1250, so I would like to try one to see if thats what I'm missing. Now to say there junk ( hope you're not trying to start something ) is wrong.

I've heard from a few people who still run them and some who use to run them and everyone says the 1250s are way better and you don't have to worry about as much protest with the 1250
These words aren't from me they are from other drivers

This topic has caused ALOT of controversy on other forums, if your a pro 1200 builder or owner you are probably going to live and die by the 1200, same with the 1250.  I am a dealer and am pro 1250. I have RACED Legend CArs for 12 years and travelled all over. If you attend the shootout or the asphalt nationals, 1250 are very dominate. I know of very few 1200s that are competitive on this level. The 1200 was competitive under the old rules of 185 compression, the rule change definetly was a changer for the 1200. I am only refering to asphalt AND THESE ARE MY PERSONAL OPINIONS, so PLEASE lets not have a war over this, it is NOT worth it.

In looking at the Beaver Dam, WI points 2/3 of the way through the season, top 12 is:
1. 1250
2. 1200  1 Feature win
3. 1200  1 Feature win
4. 1250
5. 1250  1 Feature win
6. 1200
7. 1200
8. 1200  2 Feature wins
9. 1200
10. 1250
11. 1200
12. 1250 3 Feature wins

Now, of course thats dirt, can't say anything about asphalt, but it seems pretty even to me.
To say either motor is "junk" is foolish.

The 1250 has the blow through tech without being looked at advantage, along with being brand new, but the durability of a 25 year old 1200 and being able to work on it myself are much more important. You should see the physical beatings 2 of my 1200's have taken through their lifetime, and they still run great

No arguement here.
If you think the 1250 is "way better" then you should buy one.

Actually buy two, so you will have a back-up if something goes wrong and you have to ship it out.
Not being a wise ass, just saying you can't go through it yourself, so you'll need two...unless Dennis will loan you one  ;D
They're both good motors, its personal preference on how you want to run your operation, in my humble opinion.

Hmmm...now I wanna send a car to asphalt nationals with a VMS motor in it to see how it goes, thanks Dennis...I HATE TAR!

I started with a 1200 when I first started and got screwed by the motor builder so to be on the safe side I went with the 1250.

That was a very gentle way of putting it Brandon.
I'm proud of you  ;)

Wish we would have been building motors then, I'd have the 2009 Young Lions champion in my stable

i agree with you on that one this year at my track we've had 2 1250's blow one with less then 5 races on it and one with probably about 10 races on it.  I personally run the 1200 and can't say i feel down on power, we have guys winning with 1200's and also guys winning with 1250's its all what you want.

Or can afford.
The added costs of shipping and wait time could be a problem too.

A very valid point was made, "you better have two 1250's" The part i think is valid is there are alot of people on this forum that are a LONG way from USLC, making it harder if you have an issue with a sealed motor, so location will for sure make a difference. Also elevation from my understanding will help the 1200, I am NO MOTOR GUY so some help on this would be appreciated.

I've never been in a 1250 to see any differences other than CC , but would think elevation and air density would be more of a carb issue, but can't say for sure
