clutch/brake fluid
« on: July 24, 2011, 08:05:13 pm »
What type of brake fluid do I need to use when bleeding the clutch?  Do I use  non-synthetic, full synthetic or a semi synthetic or something else entirely?  Any suggestions or ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

I use DOT3 but I might be running the wrong thing but it has always worked.

DOT 3 or 4 works just fine.
Could use the fancy synthetics.... But why spend the money?

DOT 3.
I would not use DOT4, have seen too many master cylinder seals leak with the DOT4. Couldn't tell you why, but I have.

Either will work. First 2 years used DOT3 and the past 2 years used DOT4. Haven't had leaks with either.

If you were going to use standard fluid use DOT 3 in the brakes and my Yamaha engine book says DOT 5 for the clutch. If you want to use a little bit better of a fluid you could use either Wilwood Racing, AP or Castrol Racing Fluid.

I use Wilwood Racing Fluid, I have had to many issues in the years past with standard fluid. The standard Brake fluids boil over to easily because their temp rate is only like 200 when racing fluid can range from 500-750

I've never had a fluid related problem since switching to buy it by the gallon NAPA DOT 3 brake fluid a couple years ago. of course thats on dirt, so theres alot less braking involved

With dirt racing you do use a lot less braking so the brakes don't take as much abuse but as for asphalt oval or road course you use a lot more braking. Brakes are very important on how the car handles entering the corner which also effects your exit.
