Has anyone seen a dyno sheet showing max HP and Torque  power bands of 1200 and 1250 motor?  As a road course racer, this would be good information to have.  I have head allot mixed info out there.  I have heard 8,500 9,000 9,500 and even 10,000.  Knowing when the power curve drops off would let you know when to shift.  No since straining the motor with higher RPM's when the power has all ready droped off.

I remember seeing that on Hank Scott's website a year or so ago.  Might still be out there.

I think those numbers where before the the reduction in compression to the 165lbs. I might be wrong about that but just letting you know.

Perhaps Randy may have some numbers for you. Hopefully he will chime in when he gets a chance. There has been a lot going on with his So-Cal group.

Yes, those numbers were in 2007, cranking compression rule began after that.
From what I've seen/heard/felt, around 9800 seems to be the sweet spot with my motors, but I don't have a dyno

My sheet from Hank says (and it was rebuilt this year)  Max HP is 9400 and max Torque is 6800.

So it makes you wonder why some people always feel the need to bounce it off the rev-limiter twice a lap?

Because you dont want the RPMs to drop below the power while exiting the corner.  There for at some tracks the gear will top out before the next corner.  Just hitting the limiter before the corner is not bad.

I've heard it is bad if you have a red box, repeatedly hitting the chip will kill the box, or so I'm told.
No actual experience, as I'm a black box guy, so I could be wrong

Its not good for your handling either. It upsets the car before you want it to. I get being in the sweet spot but if you are hitting the rev-limiter you are not in the sweet spot.

Man alot of answers, lol. Look alot of tracks you will hit the chip on entry, the reason guys run these gears is because thats the gear that gets you off the corner,  and thats where most of the passing goes on.  With the black box it does upset the car, the red box not so much. it really depends on the configuration of the track. Yes the power tops out around 9500 rpm's, but you have to have the gear to pull you off the corner.
