Amb transponders
« on: April 16, 2011, 01:05:03 pm »
Who sells Amb transponders?  Is Amb a brand name or model type?  Is the tranx 260 better than the 160?  Any  comments or suggestions  will be helpful. Thanks, Jim

Here's another site, and he fixes em. That would have been nice to know before I trashed my other one.

Talk to Jim (VMS Motorsports). he had a bunch of them for sale not long ago. Might still have some left.
I'm sure he could answer any questions you may have.

I think the question is if the Amb transponder is the only transponder he can use; Or, if another brand (Westhold perhaps ;) ) would work?
We don't have transponders where I live... We have a midget with a stopwatch and a scoring sheet.  :o

There are 2 major brands of transponder, AMB and Westhold. Westhold is also sold under the Raceceiver name. Some tracks have both systems with the loops tied together in the computer system, those are usually larger tracks that have more out of town racers.
Unless the track is set up for both, they are not interchangeable.

as for the AMB transponders, The TRANX160 and 260 are "compatible" but not 100%. Basically, the 160 is good up to 12" off the ground, and up to 160km/hr (about 100mph) the 260 is good up to 24" off the ground, and, you guessed it, 260km/hr (about 161mph). So for most tracks that run AMB, the 160 "should" work. And it costs about $100 less than the 260.
