Oil Temp?
« on: March 24, 2011, 08:03:16 am »
Just finished installing a front clip and took the time to add a CMG  lower spoiler and oil cooler kit along with an oil temp gauge.

Issue is what temps are you guys seeing as normal to terminal?  Opinions, please.

I am thinking my normal whould be a bit higher as I am road racing mine, but it could be cooler............Randy?

My cars (on dirt) are usually around 200-220 w/ Setrab 920 dual pass, no air scoop or fans.
I had it over 300 back before I switched to Amsoil.

300' that seems way too hot.......What Amsoil are you using?

The thicker the oil the higher the temp right?

I run Amsoil MCF 10W40, has never been over 220 since. The time I pegged the gauge was with conventional Motorcycle oil, don't remember the brand, that was back in 2007.
Amsoil offers a MCF 10W30, 10W40, and 20W50.
I personally think with the minimal clearances in these engines, the 20W50 is too thick, but thats just one mans opinion.

Have not put anything in mine just yet.......
Drained what previous owner had in it, it was very thick.
Trying to decide what to run myself.  I also buy into the too thick theory.  If the amsoil runs cooler, then they will probably get my money.
Base temps are what I am looking for.

Cooler is better, especially in Houston, TX

Okay, let me ask it this way.
1. What tempature does your oil run during a race?
2. What is a terminal tempature in your mind?
Trying to get an idea of what NORMAL is.
   Thanks

A friend of mine just turned me on to Brad Penn Oil. I am going to try it and it is backed by one of the biggest engine builder in are sport. It is also below $5 a quart.

210-230 Is where I normally run. I run a air scoop but no fans.

I don't know if this will help you, or anyone for that matter. I found a pretty informative page on oil while looking for information on what oil's to run if/when I get a legends car.

I'll also be Road Racing mine, so it's a concern as well :)
