Midwest Road Racing?
« on: October 25, 2010, 10:41:42 am »
Wheres the closest place to Wisconsin that the Road Race Legend cars?
Doesn't have to be a full on 4+ mile Road America type track, I just remember a while back they had a road course set up at The Milwaukee Mile the Legends used to run, wondering if theres anywhere somewhat close where you can turn more than left on asphalt

A quick search lists The Milwaukee Mile (2 mile road course) and Road America (4 mile road course) in Wisconsin. There is a 1.3 mile course at Iowa Speedway and a 2.23 mile course at Mid America Motorplex in Iowa. A 3 mile course at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota. A 1.8 mile at Memphis Motorsport Park and a 1.8 mile course at Nashville Superspeedway in Tennessee. Heartland Park has a road course in Topeka, Kansas. I think there is a road course near Hastings, Nebraska (Motorsports Park Hastings). And, there is Hallett Motor Racing Circuit near Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Most of these tracks run under SCCA sanctioning.

I was hoping more along the lines of an oval with a roadcourse inside like the mile had before it shut down...Had an interesting idea, but need to find some type of a road course close to or in Wisconsin

A few of those courses have ovals. I think SCCA and NASA are the 2 major organizations that hold the races. I know that SCCA does run a legends class and uses the INEX rules. If you are thinking of promoting a race on both the oval and road course, you would need to contact the track and/ or organization that use the track.

That looks good. There is an oval and the road course.

Gateway ran some SCCA stuff that may have allowed legends in one of their classes, but the wonderful people and Dover killed it off.  Next year it will probably be locked up like they did to Memphis.

I think Blackhawk farms is your best bet around here Jim.
The only other possibility is USA Intl Raceway in Shawano, WI, its a kart track but wide enough for cars to race on.  I have seen autocross there and cars were able to run side by side.  Grant ran his mini indy there so you could ask him.  Looks like it would be perfect for legends.
