« on: August 23, 2010, 10:35:38 am »
I have seen on Ebay before, people selling a tool that is just 2 steel plates that you sandwich the rack plate between to straighten it.... anybody know of anyone who makes these and sells them?

thanks,
Dave

I borrowed one and it worked great.  I heard of a guy that also welded a piece of steel stap on the bottom of the plate after straighting out the rack plate.
I talked with some guys and said they replace the original plate with some 1/4" steel and put a deeper drop on the vertical part so that there is more clearence with the steering Universal joint.

I don't believe it is legal to weld a steel strap to the bottom or to use a thicker plate. It is legal to gusset it though, according to INEX specs.

I do agree that it should be a little thicker plate.

Correct, that is illegal, better not go to Nationals that way.
What is legal per the 2010 rule book is:

" A 4”x 4” x 1/8” plate will be allowed to be bolted (not welded) under the steering rack mounting plate. This will be a 4”x 4” x 1/8” plate with three holes using the steering rack studs to secure it."
