Anyone having problems getting sponsors??
« on: February 18, 2010, 04:28:58 pm »
Is it just me or is anyone else having problems getting their sponsors to come back from last yr??  Gosh you think finishing in the top 10 in the nation would help.  Maybe its just the economy.

 Sponsors ?
Lyrics from Van Halen 'DOA' pretty much strums that topic up

Broken down and dirty, dressed in rags
A-from the day my mama told me "Boy, you pack your bags."
A-send the mayor down in his pickup truck
The jury look at me, say "Outta luck." Oo-ooh, yeah!

And I'm alone, I'm on the highway
Wanted, dead or alive
Dead or alive, uh-aah!

My shop is sponsoring our racing this year

Between real estate and parts sales, those 2 are my main sponsors...er, I mean write off's. I do have a deal with a major housing magazine in exchange for advertising which helps alot...but as far as $$ sponsors, just the 1.

Its amazing what people will spend for a one time 1/4 page in a weekly supermarket shopper, but wont even talk to you about the same outlay for a full season on a race car, parades, car shows, etc.

When I ran the sedan pictured in my icon,  I had one sponsor locked in at $2800 per season,  2 at $1500 and one at $500 for 4 seasons.
Out of courtesy I carried Mike Patrick at Little Race Cars and Mike Gwaltney from CMG on perspective inner right and left door panels. They treated me right on parts.
I broke my ties with sponsors when I raced my sprint. This season in our Legend my shop is sponsoring me... advertizing write off.
I will still be getting parts from LRC and CMG as the season progresses

Not wanting to rub anyone's nose in it, but I've just landed my 4th sponsor this year, hundreds if not thousands of emails sent, Over 60 hours of work gone into it...................is it worth it?  Hell yes!  Now got about $2,000 towards our towing costs with 6000 miles to haul this season.

The better at PR you get, the more unusal you are with the approach, the more success you get.  One of my sponsors backed into my road car recently outside a shop, we exchanged cards, and now he is on board as a sponsor!

Never thought about a car accident to get my foot in the door with a sponsor.   :)

Congratulations on the sponsors.

Never thought about a car accident to get my foot in the door with a sponsor.

I didn't plan it, but when I saw that the guy was a company boss, I thought I'd ask....cos there is no harm in asking, and it you don't ask you will never get!  There was only a small scratch on my car (which my work owns, so I don't care about that!)

The problem now with Legends Cars is the lack of space on the car to put sponsors decals onto, and the need for the large numbers.  We use transponders in the cars in the UK, so there is not a lap scorer needing to see the numbers, and our own team of race stewards travel with the formula, so the officials know who's who from appearance.  I wish we could run smaller numbers like I did back in 2000.

Oh well rules are rules I suppose!
