engine rebuild

How much compression should the 1200cc engine have before it needs rebuilt? Can I do the rebuild myself if it just needs rings? How many special tools would I need? I have worked on single cylinder engines but not a four cyl. Is there anyone in the midwest that can be recommended ? How much will it cost? Any information will be appreciated.

It all depends on what you want to do. I know of brand new 1250's that pumped 150-160, so compression isnt necessarily the issue. You can spend as much or as little as you want. Theres $7000 rebuilds out there, or you can do it yourself for $1500 in parts. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions. We're not doing outside engine work, just our own,  so I can't help you that way, but I can help you out with some of the stuff we've learned so far, and sources for parts at reasonable cost
